New To LANs?

Whether this is your first LAN or your 10th - they can still be very daunting! All those people - all those computers - what do you do? Where do you go?
With the social side of LANs growing more and more why not actually get out of your seat and make some friends? It really enhances the whole experiance! Have a cold beer at the bar - go for something to eat - a trip to sainsburies/tesco - play some football - the pubquiz. The list is endless! But if you dont know anyone then what do you do?
This is what this forum is designed for. All your questions and queries! Tell us abit about yourself. Where your from - what you do - what games you play!
Think about it - how hard is it to make friends - when you have 1000 people - who like nearly EXACTLY the same things you like! This is to give you a kickstart if your abit shy :)

I came to i16 to meet my fellow clan mates for the first time and it was a really good event. We now try and meet up at i events as it's a chance to get together in an environment where we all have something in common.

Questions: obviously theres alot of people and alot of expensive equipment at these lans, with all this crowdedness how am i meant to ensure that none of my equipment gets stolen? what sort of security is there? :) also in the unlikly event that something is stolen what is done about it? i feel the need to be extra cautious lol, i spend to much money on my precious

Upon arrival you are given a pass, a wristband and some label tags for your PC that match the details on your pass. You attach these to your computer and whenever anyone walks in/out of the building with a pc/monitor they have to match the PC Id to the person ID

On top of this you get to know the people on your row fairly well and so anyone coming and lifting your pc/monitor is going to attract their attention, nobody is going to be this dumb to even try this.

What you *do* have to be careful of is small items - CD's, pen drives, keys, phones, cameras etc


these items can go walkies very easily and you need to keep them out of sight at all times when you're not at your desk


stick to that rule and you'll be fine, there's very little theft at i-series

On the subject of security, there is an unearthly explosion of threads on security at the moment, pop into the i22 forum.
Basically, make friends with your row and look after each other and keep cameras etc somewhere safe.

i would recomend i23 as a good lan to start at. its got a large croud attending. not quite as big as the august or June events. but still large with alot of gaming. and you wont Die of heat at i23

there is no real minimum age for attending a multiplay lan. we do however ask that you have parental concent if you are under 16. If your parents are worried about you spending 3 days with 800+ raging psychos toting guns then feel free to get them to call the office. :)

you will find many people playing many games. just because your itting in say the BF1942 section doesnt mean you cant join a UT game thats taking place across the room. im sure you will find someone that will be playing a game you liek, if not ask in IRC at the event. :)

I was also wondering if the game "o2jam" which I am quite good at (Best In World U15's) would be allowed to be played at these computer gatherings *AKA LANS*

If A game which I am quite good at is played in LANS I am assuming I am allowed to participate.

Also is registration needed for these LANS.

Q7. Do I/Young have to have a PARENT. I know you have already said that it is advisable to bring a PARENT/PARENTS but what would you/the LAN managers classify and accept as a supervisor for me or younger people?

AFAIk you dont actually need a parent or "babysitter" as long as your parents give consent for you to attend.
Unless things have changed drastically recently.

The best solution is for your parents and/or your sister to ring the Multiplay UK office and have them speak to Craig Fletcher or someone who they can talk to about the event atmosphere.

He will explain what the atmosphere at the event is like, suitability for younger members of the community etc

and if your parents agree and sign your consent form then you're okay to come.

AFAIK under 16's dont *require* a guardian but my hunch is that may be the advice given to your parents, in which case bringing your sister might be a good idea.

Battlezone 2 still rocks though ;).

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could feild a question concerning StratLAN for me, ive PMed some staff who attend StratLAN regularly several days ago but received no responce so I may as well ask here :p

Ok so basically, id was thinking of attending StratLAN in the August dates, but the thing is, i'd dare say id be a fair level younger than most the people there, since i'd only be 14.

Now I know, you might be saying BAHHH NO GO AWAY KID, but to be honest, I built my own computer when i was 11, id consider myself fairly proffient in a number of programming languages etc etc, so im not just some idiotic kid who thinks he's '1337'.

So I know (technical expertice-wise) i'd proberly live up to the standards of the people attending StratLAN, but there is really little point in me attending unless i'd be able to fit in socially with the people there. I'd consider myself fairly mature and can easily hang around with people twice my age, but thats usually only people who know me, so if someone who attends StratLAN could think whether or not they'd be happy to chat with me (as it were) then that might be helpful. :)

Well, it's what you make of it really. The summer stratlans are usually better for socialising because of the BBQ and warm weather etc.

No one's gonna ignore you if you try and chat, you just gotta be confident and be prepared to get involved with what's going on.

Stratlan is less about being a pr0 l33t0r/serious gaming and more about having some fun and having a few beers if you're old enough ;-)

i'll play absolutely anythin...but im only really any good at quake 3 haha :P i have a dabble in css, etqw, cod4 and crysis now that my pc can keep up with em (just) :D

Whether this is your first LAN or your 10th - they can still be very daunting! All those people - all those computers - what do you do? Where do you go?
With the social side of LANs growing more and more why not actually get out of your seat and make some friends? It really enhances the whole experiance! Have a cold beer at the bar - go for something to eat - a trip to sainsburies/tesco - play some football - the pubquiz. The list is endless! But if you dont know anyone then what do you do?
This is what this forum is designed for. All your questions and queries! Tell us abit about yourself. Where your from - what you do - what games you play!
Think about it - how hard is it to make friends - when you have 1000 people - who like nearly EXACTLY the same things you like! This is to give you a kickstart if your abit shy :)

I have been playing Counter Strike Source for 3 months now and am getting very good, for full stats and info check out my Steam I.D. (with out quotations) "asusa2500d9600" .

The Name comes from my first gaming laptop and its graphics card. I have since moved on to a better system the Dell XPS Gen 2.

When i registered for i-34 I entered a team with out knowing how the compition goes, Basicly long story short I need to find a team that is missing one person and play with them, I am extreemly good with the d3/AU1 semi automatic Sniper Rifle.

I need to be registered with a team by 12:00pm Friday, I will be at i34 at approxamitly 10am on Friday so if anyone is missing a team memeber please get back to me and I would be veey greatfula dn very benificial to your team.

First time post and new member, so please go easy on me if I ask some obvious / daft questions !

I've decided to take a look at i34 at Stoneleigh as I've never been to an event of this type, (despite being a thirtysomething gamer who has been playing since the very early eighties). I'm planning on just getting a £10 ticket for tomorrow (Saturday) and am looking forward to seeing a LAN event in the flesh. Obviously, I won't be taking part, but am curious to see the standards of the gamers in attendance, (to see whether they are miles better than my own standard!)

I'm predominantly a PC gamer, but am not a member of any clans and to be honest, am probably not good enough to be - nevertheless, I have been reasonably proficient at a few of the older FPS games like Quake III, UT, Medal of Honor AA and Call of Duty in the past, and have tried CS:S a few times, (although every time I've played CS:S, I've felt a real 'noob' due to my unfamiliarity with the game, the controls and the number of players that are excellent at it!).

I was wondering how all you got started with the whole LAN gaming lark and how you got into clans. I'd like to try one day, but don't really know where to start...the closest I've been to the whole group gaming thing is a regular friday night Halo 3 fest on the Xbox 360 with a group of friends.
