i have just got myself a wireless g pcmcia card a WAP for my network. the pcmcia card is installed fina and seems to be getting an ip address (atually it use static ip's on my network) and i can log into the WAP without any problem. however my laptop and the WAP wont talk. as far as i can see they both have the same settings for things like subnet mask, channel, encryption and so on, but they wont talk (cant even ping the WAP)
any ideas?

If you haven't got a DHCP server running then you'll need to be setting the IP address on the card manually. I assume that's the case as you said static IPs. If the card "seems to be getting an IP address" then check it isn't the 169 address Windows assigns when no DHCP server is present. You'll of course need to be assigning it a unique address yourself.
Does the access point have a web configuration page?

the ip address the card has is the one that i set, and the WAP does have a web config page.

Does your wireless router have DHCP turned on?
If it does then specifying an ip will cock it up
try turning DHCP on and letting your router do the work

OK in that case you will need to use the WAP web page to assign the access point an IP and make sure its going to work with the rest of the network.
Also make sure the wireless security settings are configured correctly or your card may not be allowed to connect.
