Well since the flop of doom3 i really cant wait for a game i can get stuck into.

Sims 2 is a waste of money and im not an rts fan.

doom 3 was designed to bring back the old skool gaming days of doom 1 and 2 by imploying cheap tricks suck as dropping **** behind you and making you **** yourself.

your too young to appreciate its simplistic yet addictive gameplay

well i did enjoy doom3 but it didnt have the "im going to waste your life away" adictive gameplay.

Games which did this for me have been rare for a while.

Sorry Gunsmith, I disagree, we grew out of random monsters spawning behind you to try and scare you type gameplay years ago. What next? long corridors, running back and forwards trying to find the red key for the red door, hows about collected all the pills on the level to advance to the next level?.It's not recreating old skool gaming, its just lazy, Doom 3 is just a very good advert for the doom engine nothing more.

i think HL2 will rock because:

solid engine. the stress test ran like a charm on my rig, and looked like a million dollars. it's VERY scalable, so it can still run on a slower computer. i think a P700 with a TNT2 is still very playable, but without the eye candy.
interesting weapons, much more imaginative, and allows more gameplay than seeing how much ammo you can throw at...
interesting enemies, varied as well. they don't just run at you or duck behind walls
interesting physics and world. i'm sure i'll spend ages just playing with that.
mods. from what i can tell, source is easier to mod, and has a bigger following of mod teams ready to go (sven coop II already announced). the biggest D3 mod i've heard of so far is D3Fortress
steam. auto updates and no cd copy protection
there's probably some more

I don't think the stress test in CS:Source is gonna be too representive of the game when you're in the middle of a firefight with troops and striders all over the place.

Too true, plus you have great mods with amazing potential such as Neotokyo ( www.neotokyohq.com ) who are changing over from UT2004 to the source engine because it allows so much more flexibility with what they can/will be able to do.
