is there some explanation for it?

I know what you mean (sorta).
I type a lot better and faster when I am not looking at the keys (or using a laptop keyboard).
There is however one key that throws me and that is v. I dunno I just can't hit v, I always catch one of the keys around it.

ps. this was rype with my eyes closed too
pps. This wasn;t, I just realised I see unable to tell the diff between r and t :p:

yes a while ago i found that you can type with your eyes closed, its because wev spent so long doing it our brains know the positions of the keys, also remember f and j have lovely dib dobs on them :D and they arent for blind people

this keyb doesn't cos it's a **** laptop one. I can type better on it with my eyes closed though, which is weird cos I suck at tping on latops :s

2nd October 2004, 10:06
lol, missed out the y in typing, I type cos because it saves a lot of time and I like lettuce :p
ps. since when have meh and teh been incomplete words? :p just outta interest ;)
SilentMike
2nd October 2004, 10:12
since when has sticking your toung out been fashionable :)
and i find it lazy that people cant take the time to type out the words in full or correct there typos.
It shows they dont take time with there posts and just post utter garbage (spam)
and i also like lettuce only if i have salad cream to dip it into.

The threads bout typing with your eyes closed, I figure correcting the typo would be cheating ;)
And I don't like salad cream, mayonnaise on the other hand....especially with chips :p:

ok.. well on topic now i find it easier to type while looking at the monitor. Maybe my hands have got used to where the keys are.
One problem though. I type with my two index fingers.
This means my wpm is slower.
:(

You type like my mum I guess, it's so frustrating watching her type because she types reay slw due to using 2 fingers rather than the 6 I use (3 fingers and 2 thumbs technically I guess).
SilentMike
2nd October 2004, 10:31
well what i mean by index fingers is i dont touch type with every single finger.
i use my left thumb on the space bar.
i use my left litle finger on the shift key for caps.
i use all the other fingers on my left hand for the left side of the keybaord and i use my right index finger to use the right side of the keyboard.
all the other fingers arent in use... maybe i should get them removed?
Er00
2nd October 2004, 10:47
lol, probably :p i don;t know how I type other than I use the first 2 fingers and thumb of each hand. Sometimes use little finger fr shift...dunno :p

touch typing is all fine and dandy, i would say most of us do that - looking at the screen whilst typing
but not looking at the screen OR the keyboard...
it just works better for some reason, as fi you're cutting out all your senses so your brain focuses more on where the keys should be or seomthing

either that or i'm a Jedi like i always suspected...

I have a feeling it's just 'cause we feel we have to concentrate more on hitting the right keys :p

Can't say that I've tried tbh.
I tend to touchtype anyway. You get that way after a few years typing in chatrooms/IRC.

2nd October 2004, 15:38
I attempt to touchtype, and most the time I do, properly too.
So I don't tend to look at the keys, unless I'm typing in a password I don't know, or a really long serial number. I've seen some recently that were case sensitive :/

its quite easy to type with your eyes closed.
You just have to have had enough practice to know where all the keys are on the keyboard that you're using.
I.e. you need to be a sad geek.
BTW - this was typed with my eyes closed.

Typing with your eyes closed is easy, try typing with your hands in your pockets.... now theres talent...
Especially if you can keep up the same WPM average :D

as a typist/data entry robot, it does sometimes help when my brain just gets in a lock, to do it blind. it's just something you train your brain to do, and concious thought doesn't always help

tisnt as if they are actually noticable in general typing is it ?
[not that bad for blind typing  ]

Blind typing is pretty damn easy tbh, I'm typing this with my eyes closed and spend alot of my time typing without looking at the screen or the keyboard. Years of irc should have taught all of us to be perfect touch typers. I'm pretty much just talking crap now so i can type out a huge passage with my eyes closed and feel good about my uber typing skills.
The real talent is if you can type one handed with your eyes closed :P:

If you can't type without looking at your keyboard I feel sorry for you, you mean you actually spend time looking at the keys? ;/ worrying D:!@D@1;'d;!
Its not exactly hard to know where they are? whats the problem
Zenti
3rd October 2004, 23:28
well maybe its different with some people, some people dont need to watch the screen to see if they made mistakes because they didnt make any as they wer watching where thier hands wer going, im a touch typer and i look both at the screen and at the keys, it depends how fast i want to type and how many mistakes i want to correct.
if you can type looking at the screen then you should be able to type looking anywhere!

Hmmm elbonio, i'm typing this with me eyes closed, too. and well, i rock at it. I never look at the keyboard, unless pressing F keys. I think my fingers are just thinking for themselves.

Typing with eyes closed is very much like generic touch typing.
Assuming you ARE a touch typer anyway elbonio. If not, then typing thread with eyes closed was quite impressive, well done :)
Elbonio
4th October 2004, 06:51
well no i do touch type anyway
but i touch typed tons better with my eyes closed

typing with eyes closed is really easy for me as i used to have to o it at school as all the keyboards were mucked and you couldnt see the letters and the computers were so slow that you had to wait half an hour for the text to come on the screen.
oh btw typed with eyes closed
