Well, now we've got a forum and all I'd better get it all sticky with some information on the trip itself.
Following the success of the 2004 & 2003 ski-trips we're doing it even bigger in 2005. For a recap of the pure, unadulterated, prescription-strength WIN of the last two look here:
Les Deux Alpes: 2004 (http://www.multiplay.co.uk/columns.asp?m=view&uid=2774) (56k warning, many images)
Grindelwald: 2003 (http://www.multiplay.co.uk/columns.asp?m=view&id=128&uid=1453) (56k warning, many images)
This year we thought we'd go one better, at everything! There's more of us, the resort is higher, the skill-level is rising, the music is louder, the dancing more suggestive, the attendees fitter and the party longer.
We're off to Dragonlodge Dragonlodge (http://www.dragonlodge.com) at 2100m in Tignes Le Lac (http://www.tignes.net) where 20 of us will cut up the slopes, drink all the beer and very probably fall-over quite a lot. There's a good chance that 20 people might be counted as an invasion by the English, so when the French are done surrendering we may be able to establish the first Republic of MPUK - we shall see. The trip kicks off Saturday the 22nd of January and ends Saturday the 29th of January - a period containing 3 Ski-Trippers birthdays, nice...
Those going need to:
A: Pay me the rest of the money for the accomodation, By December 17th (oooh double whammy on christmas money, nasty).
B: Arrange transport, fly to Chambery, Lyon or Geneva. Get the train to Bourg St Maurice or drive if you're one of the continental contingent. Easyjet (http://www.easyjet.com) fly to geneva and Lyon, non-scum airways fly to Chambery - nearly all flights will depart at Twat AM. The Snowtrain leaves from Paris and London, gets you in at 6:30 on the Saturday and leaves at 10 the next Saturday - 2 days more skiing. Anyone interested in the Snowtrain but bummed due to living "oop North", there is space in my London flat to sleep 5 the night before the trip, 6 if you don't mind getting cozy. Transport from landing/arrival zones can be arranged with the lodge. talk to John (from the Dragonlodge site) once you have an idea how many of you will be going from each place and he'll sort you out.
c: Make sure you've got the right clothes - January, at 2100m in the mountains. It'll be brass monkeys, make no mistake. Boarders, make sure your board-pants are V waterproof as you will be sitting on them. A lot. Skiers, make sure your Rompersuit (http://www.fluorescentrompersuits.co.uk/) is fluorescent - so everyone can see you when you fall over. Anyone who wants extra safety should take a helm, bvark does.
D: Insurance - whilst standard medical treatments can be reclaimed you REALLY REALLY need insurance. Simply because if you hurt yourself on the mountain it is WORLD ENDINGLY expensive to be brought down. We're talking mortgage the house and sell the children expensive. If they bring you down in a copter your GRAND-children will be working the debt off. Get insurance. It's also good if you injure yousrself and can't board/ski, a la Strych 2003, since then you can claim money back from the holiday. Insurance can be had cheaply from the aptly named www.cheaptravelinsurance.com site (make sure you get winter sports cover and check the exclusions - apparently leaving a brand new Burton hire board outside a bar unlocked whilst you get drunk and it getting nicked isn't covered, who knew?).
E: Rooms - I've already done the room assignments, but I'm not going to post them yet as I need to keep something back for an update in a month or two.
F: The hosts - Dragonlodge appears quite leet, they've got consoles & shizz in the lodge, a large common room and all sorts of music etc. They actively encourage people to bring more entertainment, and since we're MPUK let's not let them down. Continental ppl who are driving especially - I expect plenty of l33t stuff (Xboxes, bomberman etc etc) to keep us entertained in the evenings after Tuesday when we will have spent all our money.
That's it for this first update. I'll set this as the forum's first sticky and update it as news changes.
