as title :)

anyone got any simple ways to find the mtu for 2 network cards?

I ask because i've been having fun and games playing UO the past few weeks on the UK based servers (basically i couldn't for more than a few minutes at a time even though the connection was rock solid).

The only thing that sorted it was changing the NIC i was using - which was rather odd as i was fine playing on the US servers.

Someone has suggested the MTU on my 10/100/1000 NIC might have been causing the problem (so i want to find out what it is compared to the MTU on the 10/100 NIC that allows me to play the game).

doubt its that. The MTU on network cards should be the same AFAIK. It tends to be 1500 I think. Some OSes will push a different MTU though.

sorry for the late reply.

it seems that both mtu's are the same so it's not that.

However i've since heard a number of other people having the same problem i had with the Ultima Online Europeon servers when using onboard* 10/100/1000 NIC's to connect to cable/asdl and home routers for their internet connections.

It seems something about the servers in question just doesn't like dealing with data from gigabit capable network cards (oddly enough it seems the US servers for UO are fine).

Definately odd though as the people who are affected (including myself) were not having problems with anything else, from playing other games to downloading, browsing the internet etc.

*i've heard of it affecting users with Asus boards with both marvell and 3com based onboard nic's (and some people who didn't specify what board they had, just that changing to a PCI nic sorted it)
