Because the usage of PhotoShop drains skills from you....
Hence him forgetting to save in a half decent format like PNG or JPG.

actually, when it comes to big pictures, Gif's dont save as well as jpegs because of the colour information... its almost as bad as a bmp...

I think you`ll find that anything over about 30k and a JPG will be MUCH smaller.
GIF are only usful for things that need clarity and low bit depth... like line art or somthing..
Or for icons / small image where compression artifacts are bad.

Actually for this type of image gif is the smallest format, but that's mainly because of the 255 colour limit. The type of image does not lend itself to compression, either with the jpeg or gif compression types. With jpeg you lose stars because of the way it work, to dial down the compression so you dont lose stars leaves you with an image thats too big, with png/lzw compression you end up with a large image size. Gif probably was the best of the lot.

Hello
I disagree. Low compression JPEG will be smaller, and of higher quality.
Check out my two links above. First one is 185kb, and the second is 617kb (1280 resolution)

If you are comparing by opening the files and re-saving as JPG then that woont work.
The image has already lost the 24bit colour values... and JPG doesnt like 256 colour images. so it makes them bigger.
If you save the originals in JPG you`d find they would be much smaller. Even at 100% quality.
And the images would be less grainy due more colour depth and less dithering.
