To save me plugging in the crappy speedtouch modem, connecting, and then running IP Config, could somebody give me the addresses of the BT Yahoo DNS servers? My router doesn't handle forwarding too well, so I want to bung them in statically.

Well, as you lot don't seem to know, I thought I'd ask BTo themselves.

So, here we go...

Here's what I asked:

My router (Netgear DG814) doesn't seem to have a very good DHCP server built in, and on occasion will fail. As a result, I am using statically assigned IPs. On top of this, it doesn't seem to forward DNS requests very well and I have to reset it quite often. I would like to know what the current DNS server addresses are for use with my BT Yahoo connection so I can configure these on the PCs. Many thanks.

Here's their response:

Dear Mr. Rickard

Thank you for your recent query. From our records I have noted that this is the first time that you have contacted the helpdesk in relation to this issue. I am sorry to hear about the problems you are experiencing with your router.

Your support request has been logged against your username.

Whilst we cannot support the setup of these devices, the customer may require certain information from us in order to configure their hardware correctly. below are the basic settings that customers using non-bt equipment may need.
· VPI = 0 (zero)
· VCI = 38
· Authentication = CHAP
· Modulation = G.DMT
· Encapsulation Protocol = PPPoA
· Encapsulation = VC MUX
The settings above vary from router to router in regards to how they need to be inputted and are displayed in the routers gateway page. A regular occurrence would be to see the encapsulation protocol and the encapsulation together as one field e.g. PPPoA VC based. Regardless, with the above information and a little input from the customer it should be easy to work out the correct settings for each field.

I do hope this is of some assistance to you.

Here's my reply:

Thankyou for so carefully reading my email.

Instead of a copy and paste response, please take time to read my initial query, and repspond accordingly.

In order to make things simple, I am sticking to one sentence per line.

I am also going to reduce my question to one very simple one.

My question: What are the IP addresses of the BT Yahoo DNS Servers?

Regards

Bawahah!

Just use ANY DNS servers. :)

ns1.multiplay.co.uk - 212.42.16.2
ns2.multiplay.co.uk - 212.42.16.5

Will work fine. :)

And the multiplay spy system can log what you browse! (or at least what you do dns lookups for).
