Right now we are looking at our bug numbers. Each day you fix some bugs
and you find some new bugs. The net number tells you how quickly you
will get to zero.
At our current rate of find/fix bugs, we'll be down to zero bugs in 16
days.

... except the number of bugs doesn't go down in a linear fashion. The nasty ones get left till last and take longer (although, of course, it would be better to get them out of the way earlier, that doesn't often happen in the real world).

Valve Internal Memo 22nd July 2004:
--------------------------------------
Don't be downhearted fellow employees! Doom 3 may have beaten us to market, but we have a response so cunning it makes my brain hurt. Get this...
We'll release a statement saying... WE'RE NEARLY DONE!!!111
Since the public so clearly fell for our code leak publicity stunt which gained us a good year of development, this should keep them on tenterhooks for at least another 6! They will never find out what a bunch of incompetent slackers we are!
Big Cheese,
Valve Delaying Tactic Dept.

The word for that is "Vapourware".

Well it wouldn't be too surprising seeing how the previous game was delayed a year aswell, all they are doing is following suit.

I take it you are the valve development team then? Or have some other cunning legal means of having played this game?

I think the words "leaked alpha" applies here, and I really woudn't judge a game by how that played...

Its not true, It looks like some "clever" joker was impersonating Gabe Newell on the Fallout forums (successfully enough, we might add, that they granted him the Valve Employee badge). End result: The announcement was very likely bogus, and we'll all have to wait a while longer for our Half-Life 2 fix.

that HL2 Gold thingy was a hoax, and Gabe Newells stupidity strikes again...
apparantly his account that was used to make the announcement had the password 'gaben'...
and this man is meant to be the pinnacle of game developers

Seems his lack of awareness to security strikes again.... wasn't it Gabe's computer that was hacked for the apparant source leak?
