looking through the posts you get a page of "my shuttle has a 200gb hardr........" etc, can someone tell me the advantages and disadvantages and why everyone seems to have one?

can you get more that 1 hdd, or 2 drive bays.?

i have a shuttle and TFT, i bought the shuttle as a machine to keep at my uni house as it would be easy to take home with me when i went back for holls/the odd weekend. at the time my main PC was a huge coolermaster cased monster.

it took me about 2 weeks to realise that my shuttle did everything i needed and the coolermaster setup was sold mere days later.

Shuttles are popular here as they are perfect for lugging to lans.

in my shuttle i have a 250gb hdd and a dvd/cdr combo drive. there is room for another hard drive internally but i dont use it.

I do have 2 80gb external fire wire drives on it too.

downsides....hmmm

Not as upgradeable as a full tower ATX setup , but if most people are honest, they simply dont need 6 PCI slots.

PSU is a little on the weedy side, although again its good enough to power most things you put in it.

and i believe shuttles latest offering has a 350 watt PSU, which is plenty.

Great for Lan Parties - all you need is a fast CPU, fast graphics, most likely a soundcard as 90% of onboard sound is garbage, a hard disk to store your stuff on and a CD drive to keep the anti piracy methods happy. All this is a little, lightweight box. Coupled with a TFT and you have a very light, very portable gaming system. Oh, and a small bag of cables and stuff.

Which you can also sort by buying one of the shuttle carry-cases which have cable compartments and a strap for the keyboard/mouse aswell.

I dont if this is still true, but i dont think there are any uk suppliers.
The only person i know with an Ideq had to buy from importers, this was a while ago though.

Im actually thinking of jacking my shuttle in for an ideq model before i21.
There are some major design flaws with shuttles i feel, especially regarding space around components like HDD's.
Also it would REALLY help for my graphics card to be further away from the edge of the case

I just bought an abit digidice, plenty of room in it enough for 2 optical drives and two hard drives, oh and it even has an oil burner attachment!?!?!

I have an SN85G4 (first version) - no problems with it whatsoever! The card reader can be easily removed just by unscrewing it from the case and removing the cable from the usb header whatnot, i did that so i could get 2 hdd's in. Ideally i'd like a single 250gb drive which would let me have a 9800xt (wiz tried his 9800xt in my shuttle but it seemed that the psu wasn't big enough :() Have had absolutely no problems with it though, a most pleasing machine :)

Hmm .. I receieve about 10 SN45G's a day in the form of "This won't work, please return"..
We actually replace the motherboards in the shop now, because it's such a bitch to send them off to Taiwan for replacement.

used to have a SN45G as my main machine but always seems to have problems with it - but - I got a SN41G2 for my girlfriend 2nd hand from OcUK forums and it has been rock soild - I don't even recall it locking up or rebooting once.
It's got a 2.5 athy and a 9600xt inside and flies along very nicely.
coupla sticks of generic 2700 mem, a 60g hd and a cd rwr - works like a dream.

I went back to a midi tower case - my 3.2 athy and 98pro I think were too much for the 45G to handle quite frankly.
