Cats imho are cleaner, smell less and their fur doesnt take 6 layers of skin when you stroke them.

Dogs :D I'd go mental if I had a cat. I wouldn't know it was safe! :( And yes I know they can look after themselves but I'd still worry my lil heart out :p Also they tend to wreck furniture and play in PC cables grr!

I have had 4 cats since ive had computers in a room they can easily get at, and i cant remember any of them ever playing with cables. Whether this is because they do it while im not there, or they have some way of knowing its a good idea, i dont know (but strongly suspect the former).

I prefer dogs. Cats take the 'if you're not going to feed me, feck off' line, whereas a dog is happy to just be with you.

Well, we had until recently a cat called Silver who was the most docile animal on the planet, a very cool cat (sic), he died of old age at 14. Now we have 2 kittens called Spider and Bill (Spider had very long legs as a kitten). But, we also had a great dog called smurf (sadly died of old age at the age of 15). So I'm gonna sit on the fence and vote for both.

its has to be dogs.. i have a strange fear that cats are going to attack me.
Probably because that look and act like lions and tigers, who knows.

but dogs are better anyway :D

Cats. No doubt in my mind, it just has to be cats.

Cats - whilst I realise that Dogs are more loving, they are also, less of a personality than a cat is, and even a drain on the owners. Have had a dog before though, so dont flame me, I just prefer cats.

Also no need for walkies 3 times a day - easier when working.

Cats win. They don't need as much taking care of and they're all cute and cuddly when they're kittens. My family has a dog and it's a royal pain in the arse. I guess dogs are for people who enjoy walking round the countryside. Personally I find it incredibly boring, especially on days when I've run out of batteries for my MP3 player. And dogs smell bad and drool and leave muddy foot prints on the new carpet and tip bins over. Cats win, dogs lose.

Our dog is a waste of money too. My parents insisted on forking out hundreds (and more on insurance and vets bills) on a thoroughbred so they could make profit off it through breeding when it got old enough. It turns out it failed some kind of test and can't be used for breeding. And being a thoroughbred labrador means it will most likely get arthritis in its hips (they've since discovered theirs definitely will), and won't live nearly as long as a mongrel. So, money well spent there then. Still, I won't be around to see it get put down to end its misery because its in so much pain. That will teach them for trying to use a supposed member of the family as a money making scheme.

grew up with both - was fun when we had kittens n pups cause both pets decided it was time to breed and produce their litters a week apart.
pups n kitties brawling and yelling at each other - was great.

me and me girlee got 3 cats atm - it was a litter of 3 - we originally wanted a ginger & black n white mog but didn't wanna split up the family so had all 3.
they have all been terrific :)
would love a dawg but we both work and it wouldn't be fair - also the cats would probs leave now they have settled.

when I lived at home with my folks we had 3 dawgs n a cat.

so love em both - can't stand birds or fish tho'.

have never had a cat play with pc cables, climb the xmas tree/chimney or walk all over the keyboard yes, but never the cables.
