We need a cable Internet connection for our house in Leamington which will be split between 4 people.

It should be no slower than 512, and no faster than 1Mb because we're on a budget.

It should be cable, we aren't looking at ADSL right now.

It should suit a 9 month contract, we can't afford to lock into a 12 month contract then pay an outrageous cancellation fee. We'll only be in the house from September till July so we only need a 9 month contract.

Ideally there should be no installation fee. Or a low cost one anyway.

Any suggestions? We're looking for performance, uptime and good value. Decent customer service would be a bonus. Cheers. ;)

Erm if ure going for cable surely u only have the choice of whatever provider serves that area? ie not much choice at all?

NTL did me a 9 month contract on their 600k , and it worked out cheap on phonecalls too. Got it at my uni house in the last year i was there, split it 4 ways, had the hub in my room, and yanked everyones connections out when i needed a little more bandwidth.

The local franchise (either NTHell or Telewest) will have a monopoly on the area. In NTL areas you can opt for AOL over NTL's network! Whoopee!

:D

I think ADSL is a safer bet, as some do 1-month contracts.

Hmm thats news to me, I haven't shopped around for broadband packages since 1998.

Looks like if I want choice I'll need to go looking for ADSL, although we don't want a phone line (mobiles will suffice) so cable with NTL seems like the cheaper option.

And Jerky, as far as the hub goes, I won't need to pull out cables. I'll just be the one administering the router, and blocking the default bit torrent port range from everyone else's machines except mine. :p:
