I`m quite interested in this...

Whats the screen size / res....

And what condition is the machine in generally ?

Any scuffs / scrapes / scratches / dents ?

Gifted

Screensize is 14"

and i think its max is 1024x768

the general condition is pritty much perfect. i will check again later but i cant remember any scratches.

basically it has only been used by the company about 10-15 times for presentations.. the rest of the time it was in its bag. and its never really been used as someones personal laptop... like i say just for our powerpoint presentations.

the screen doesnt have any dead pixels.

Whats the next lan you`re going to ? (strat / fbl / i21)

As im getting married in a couple of weeks and have so much stuff to do with houses etc. i wont be gogin to a lan for a while!

i can take photos if you like or a vid...

or if i really have to i might be able to drop it in seeing as i live near oxford.

or post could be sorted.. i would of thought it wouldnt be any more than about £15.

and if you find something that you didnt know about before hand and would of effected the sale then you can send it back if you like.

like i said.. its a work laptop.. and there really is nothing wrong with it from my use of it.

(ill take some photo's tonight anyway i think, as even if you dont buy it or anyone else here... it will have to go on ebay)

In particular, the track-pont on the keyboard has a tendancy to rub on the screen (along with some of the key caps)

As you say it hasnt been used much, that would mean the lid has been shut most of the time so that might be an issue.

I said i was "quite" interested, and thats based on the fact that I wanted more details before i commited.

Thats still very sloppy trading.

Jesus it's not like I bid to spite you with no real need for the laptop.. I've been looking for one for a while for my mum (i cba to find the forum posts)

Perhaps I should have posted first but really it's nothing to get hung up about is it? She's been on at me for months about getting her a laptop and I simply didnt want to let this one slip.

So now its a case of who has been after a laptop before who ?

Anyway, its not about that, its more the devious underhandedness that is going on here.

I expressed an interest, and before i could actually make the purchase you went and grabbed it without comment.

Its the principle of the thing.

Its like me standing in a shop looking at the last item on the shelf, reading the ingrediants to see if its ok for my needs, and you grabbing it out of my hand. Its just not done.

surely the chance of a counter offer should at least be allowed.

Bit harsh.

It was first come first served as i see it, Her0n paid first and got it.
Same with any thing in life, get it while you can!

tbh its not like you spoke to him one minute and then he sold it the next to heron, it was over a day ish.

I also remember a certain switch that tango was giving away and you getting pouty cause on your screen your "yes" came before mine, yet on my and tango's screen my yes was before yours.

Her0n came straight in and offered him the money he wanted, he accepted. Just because her0n didnt post on here that somehow makes it harsh?

Thats like me telling a few peeps about wanting to sell my p4 @ i20 and then not telling everyone i asked who else i had offered it to? as it stod cabe made me the 1st offer and i accepted cause it was the price i wanted.

someone came back a little later and actually offered more, i said sorry it had been sold. He was ok fair do's should have said sooner.

Soz m8 i dont really see any thing here to get moany about. next time try bidding 1st. Heron was willing enough to take it at face value.

Not really, if you *did* have a laptop for sale, both parties (me and heron) would be aware of each others interest in the laptop and would be on even ground. If i`d PMed you then you would have a fair comment.

Also if you sold it directly to heron without telling anyone else about it, then fair doos, but if you offered it to somone else first and sold it to heron while they were just podering the question then thats what i consider a little harsh.

What gifted did was place the item in an open forum for sale.

I had initially shown i had an interest in this laptop, and its only polite to at least let people know where they stand.

This has been blown up a little out of proportion. I`m just saying normal forum sales etiquette (sp) is you either say "this item is forsale elsewhere" and therefore might go to anyone else at any time without warning, or alternatively the first person to post normally gets first refusal on the item.

Its nothing unreasonable and it means everyone knows where they stand.

Had i decided that it wasnt for me, i may well have prompted Heron to look at the item (if i remembered that she was after one) but as its an open forum, she saw it anyway.

I dislike it when people arent straightforward about trades, its one of my pet peeves, so sorry if i ranted, but there you go.
Also, despite how it may read this isnt intended to be a "RAR RAR RAR" thread, i`m just pointing out my observations.

TheGuyver
3rd July 2004, 06:43
Nah, i still maintain you have nothing to gripe about.

there is no forums post ethics code or what ever ****e you just went on about.

It is and always will be the case its upto the seller whom they wish to sell to. There is no written or unwritten oath about 1st poster getting 1st refusual or any such cr4p.

NOW. IF you had said to gifted please can i have 1st refusal and gifted saying yes OR Gifted saying i will give you 1st refusal, and THEN afterwards saying well actually ive now sold it to her0n, i would be totally agreeing with you. It wasnt the case.

As you said, she saw it anyways... Now with the length of time between your posts she could have come in said ill give you X (nb which most people dont want to post openly about) and gifted said yeah sure before you read it. Would you still be griping about it? technically you would not have known about it still....

As it happens, she saw it, pm'd him an offer, he accepted. I dont see why this is such a hard concept for you to understand or accept?

I see this trade as being very straight forward. someone offers something for sale, people or person enquires about it, the item is then sold at a price that the seller is looking for. he could have said well actually im looking for a bit more, but then as he said she made him an offer he couldnt refuse...

Again i will state it, this ISNT bid up tv.com Sellers decision is final, you were not sold too because you took a day to ask questions etc, you lost out because you were too slow. Live it it fgs.

Or next time, make it the 1st post you make "NOTE: I want 1st refusal"

anyyy road. back to the mpuk Joint Ops server! #mpukjo /pimp

as far as I can see, this is like Whiteknight going up to a shop salesman, looking at the last laptop in the shop, walking off after saying 'I may be back later', forgetting to ask the seller to hold the laptop and then her0n turned up in the meantime and paid cash in hand...

its perfectly legit salesmanship as far as the seller is concerned and the fact it was carried out on a forum doesn't make it any different...

To clear this all up from my point of view...

if you look at my other item (Viglen Server) i say that i need to get rid of this stuff ASAP.. im away on holiday this sunday... and i moved house last sat!... ideal i wanted to sell it before i moved house..

WhiteKnight to me sounded like he wanted me to trek all the way to a lan to show him the laptop... i didnt really want to do this as its more expense to me.. not that i have anything to hide as her0n has already said.. but if i didnt get anyone one else interested i would have went to a lan. but that also ment a wait...

Her0n came in with an offer i couldnt refuse which ment i could post it before i moved house and it got lost in boxes..

It was all done very fast. i have met her0n before so was comfortable trading with her. and as far as im concerned it was an easy sale before i moved house.

now.. Whiteknight. i didnt offer first refusal to you, i answered your questions. but i already said that if i didnt get an offer it was gogin on ebay.. so thats sure sign i want offers... you didnt actually give me a price.. or even a price payable on delivery (i said you could test it for a while and send it back if you were not happy) so her0n was within her rights to buy the item..

we not talking about supermarkets here.. its seconde hand sales! in my books that means first offer the comes that is acceptable is the winning offer and its sold. (like any used car)

I've got the exact same model as the one that was on sale here, except it's got XP-pro instead of 2000. FDD and CD interchangeable, good battery life, no install cd's unfortunately but not a prob if you have your own copies. Might consider selling, £350 maximum? (not realistic but I'm interested to know how far people would be willing to go).
