OK I would really like to get this working, but even with the NWLink IPX protocol installed on Windows XP my original version of Mech Commander does not work.
Does anyone have a copy of Mech Commander Gold they could bring with them? This updated version apparently allowed for LAN play via TCP/IP...?

Cheers guys. Despite an ENORMOUS amount of fudgery, I cannot get the "Multiplayer -> Network" option to become "available" for click in the *original* mechcommander.
Plz do let me know how you get on with Mechcommander Gold, I might pick up a copy on eBay if its all good.

Haven't been able to find McG yet :(
Afty, have you tried setting the frametype to Ehternet 802.2/3
That allowed me to play Origional C&C Under Windows XP
Did find this though

Cheers for the link Rippsy, no joy on that technique. As McG allows play via TCP/IP (according to its box...) Im hopefuly we can simply use that...

Mech Commander 2 was OK.... it just wasn't the same as the original Mech Commander though, balance changes, mech changes, the missions were not as good etc. etc.
It's a fine game in it's own right, and I suppose we could play it, but it's a poor subsitute.

If that's the MechCommander that had the 3Dfx patch as well, I should have it somewhere in 'the archives'
edit - by which I mean the loft of spiderage.

Incidentally, MechCommander 2 supports 4v4 multiplayer, so yes we will be having muchly :)
