Via a few random skirmishes with AI, it has come to my attention that this will make a SUPERB multiplayer game. It has the right quotients of skill, timing, planning, strategy, daring and most importantly of all "****ery of opponents plans in the extreme". It supports up to 8 players, and it WILL be the game of SL2?

I like. But its a pain in the arse to run/play windowed. Which I have to do as it doesn't support 1280x1024. Tsk :)

seems to need a lot of balancing to avoid 'one large tower syndrome'. also a bit flaky (at least on net) with high numbers of players.

otherwise jolly good.

If you play with larger than normal maps (the biggest one is HUGE) then the game takes longer, meaning each player gets more specials like bombs, volcanoes etc. - these are the natural counter to large towers. But yes, the quickest way to win on smaller maps is to build a single big tower.

following yesterday's games it looks like prime multiplayer settings are:

- Biggest map possible
- 3 targets to capture
- high incidence of gifts
- all gifts are bombs
- flag connection required
- Rah de Rah rah RAH

Yes, bombs/volcanoes and missiles are the best gifts (though missiles can seem a bit weak) - though it's fun to have the odd anvil/propeller/earthquake in there, you need them on 1% or else no-one will ever win (I do want to play in a game though where the board tips so far over EVERYTHING slides off)

I do like the art of "throwing the piece and releasing it at the same time like a fast moving artillery shell aimed at the enemy tower tactic"

:D

You can build a tower which would actually be physically impossible by building it out constantly in one direction - here's an example I found, although you can get a much better angle than this:

http://www.boomspeed.com/caspervb/gravity.jpg

If you do this towards the centre you can get to the point where you are halfway there at the top of the tower, although the influence still comes from its base at your home flag.

If it gets very tall then you win directly from it's influence. If it gets knocked down the pieces fall and make a path towards the centre rather than on the spot, giving you a far better starting point for another tower.

Not tried it in a multiplayer game, but could be useful when playing with just one centre flag.
