There are FAQs which explain most of those ... think half a canteen desk ... think PC, Monitor (or in your case Laptop) and Phone charger ... and that's about it.

the desks are something like 6ft by 3 or something, you get half a table, plenty of space for a tower+moniter upto 19" /9anything bigger and space gets tight) a keyboard, mouse+mat and what ever else you want
Space isnt really an issue, also under desk and around you space :)
these are 2 desks from slan19

as for power, you get 2 plugs i think or 1 cant remeber, basicly bring a 4 way or some adapter and as long as your not running a fridge or something HUGE then there wont be a problem, if you want to use your lappy on the network, you have to pay for a second Laptop network connection

thanks, some of the pics i had seen, space looked a bit tight, i had hoped to bring a mini fridge but that looks like it's out of the question. even thought i manage to run my entire bedroom on one plug socket.

Check the requirements on your mini-fridge carefully, there are actually some out there that are designed for lan parties specifiically and have lower power requirements. Honestly i don't see how ANYONE could EVER complain about lack of power here in the UK. In america we only have 110volt sockets, so basically i can go to town when it comes to uk power output. In fact, i usually tote a power converter along with me to most uk lan parties to drop the power back down to 110 to keep from damaging my equipment.

have just looked and i can power it via my pc, so i won't even need an extra plug secket.

i work for special reserve, io got it there. we may have one kicking round the wherehouse. basically it is a mini frtidge that can be powered by a car fag lighter socket. and we sell a 5.25" drive bay lighter socket.

philbert_mcpleb
8th June 2004, 22:43
only problem is both the fridge and the lighter socket have been discontinued, so it is just a case of what is in the wherehouse. i can have a look for you if you want.

i have a mini fridge i can power from my car and i have it plugged in on my desk. It hardly gets ice cold though... just cool and it takes a while to get cold :) and i'm sure its even slower useing the car adapter. only get 6 cans in it 2.

i power my pc, 19" crt, 19" tft, laptop, Speekers, adsl modem, router, sterio, minifridge, tv and desklamp all from one socket :p

There are huge fridges at slan anyway, so no need to take your own.

GeeDee
9th June 2004, 08:05
Just to clarify; the issue with power is not that you can run your rig from one plug. That just means your pulling no more than 13a.

Power at a LAN is shared amongst a lot of people - there simply isn't capacity for you to plug in whatever you want.

Just think before you plug your 4 bar electric fire in mmmkay?

:)

Giles.

Fridges are bad mmm kay. They are almost as bad as warez.

There are a WORLD of other threads on bringing fridges, have a search and read up on them...

Really? I thought you brought that converter so you could knock out half the power at a LAN?

for people interested... dunno how good they are...

personally, id only buy one if they made a 3.5 version... would be mint if I could charge my phone off it...

Guigsy

It is also suitable to charge mobile phones.

it doesnt look like it would fit in a 3.5 bay, the lighter bit is 2 big

or you could try and put one in the back of the machine, so it looks tidy.

Can I bring my fridge? You can all share etc etc//?

Afty
10th June 2004, 18:25
Generally, fridges/toasters/kettles etc. are not allowed at events because of their power drain.

Note that at StratLAN we have the use of the two HGUE fridges in the kitchen area anyway, making this redundant.

Elizabeth
10th June 2004, 18:27
Hmmm :\ please? Who should I speak to afty?

Aardvark
10th June 2004, 18:40
The man mentioned 'two huge fridges'. They WILL suffice, trust me on this :)

Afty
10th June 2004, 18:40
Wizzo organises the events, but this is a rule which 1000 people follow fine at i-series. I imagine if you needed a fridge for medical reasons (keeping injections cold etc.) some arrangement could be made, but it's real simple - your power supply is for your PC/Monitor and peripherals, and I think phone charges may be allowed too...

her0n
10th June 2004, 18:42
Some guy (sorry dunno who) kept medicine in the fridge at reception at SLAN19 and all was good :)

Elizabeth
10th June 2004, 18:47
That a yes huh?

her0n
10th June 2004, 18:59
The racecourse already has UBER fridges, people just put their stuff in there with labels on their food saying 'HER0N'S HANDS OFF OR DIE"!£!!!£"!£!!!!11111' and that was fine.

There really is no need (or personal "desk" space) for mini fridges at SLAN.

/me awaits RTO to clarify ;)

But I can if I want to right?

I think we should ban people from putting whole 24 can ****ing crates of piss water in the fridges thus limiting legitimate food storage use.

I say no more than a siz pack at a time. When you take a cold one out, put a warm one back in :p:

Not at stratlan (they have HUGE fridges and if you cannot get your stuff in as a whole, split it up and just chuck it in :P

Anyway:

THELANFRIDGEPC:

http://www.ipages4u.com/pic/joe@joesmx.com_AE_6_Picture_006.jpg

Runs off the pcs power supply, Is the same size as a full tower, Holds red bull, is bolted to the top of the pc so it wont come off :D

MmmMMMmm cold redbull :D

I just need to mod the fridge to a quiter fan, this one has a 120mm thing mega loud!

Amps = Wattage/Volts ?

Well think of it like this 1KW = 4.16 amps max :-) - Always at 240 volts

At i-series, and most other MPUK LAN parties, the power infrastructure is designed to allow each person about 1A (ie 230W) of power each, with enough room for a little extra here and there. Whilst each individual socket is 13A, that doesn't mean everyone can pull 13A. 1A is sufficient for most PCs and monitors, with things like mobile phone chargers having very little impact.

Whilst it would be theoretically fine for one person to plug in a fridge, the rules are that noone can, because if everyone did the power supply would not be able to handle it. This is the reasoning behind the policy of no fridges.

As for things like toasters and kettles, they often use up 8-10A on their own, and would cause problems plugged into our infrastructure anywhere, as there just isn't that much current at any one point in the system.

I hope that clears up any confusion :)
