I did Planet side for 30 days and thought, nah, this aint worth the cash.

If i wanna pay to play, ill do it with an MMORPG.

Absolutely. I mean, $13 a month... whats that.. £9? Two/Three hours work?

Been playing for nearly a year with a three month subscription, I don't plan on leaving anytime soon.
And yea, it eats up system resources like mad. If your running on crappy low-res textures with loads of lag then yea it might seem as though its not worth it.

I got 768MB RDRAM and a Radeon 9600Pro 256MB - runs Planetside pretty well with high-resolution textures, very, very nice! :D

Something went fubar with the last patch apparently, about the way textures are cached or something scarily technical like that. Its what causes you to lag terribly after you load a continent, happens to me, happens to everyone I know.
Fix comes in next patch apprently, which is supposed to be on Public Test this week.

Not gonna make me quit though :)

If it was free i'd probably still play it now and then.
The vehicles were cool, the "big army" element was unique and the team play was good.

But there are so many BETTER games out there that are free.

Just doesnt balance right.

The only thing that niggles me about this game is the fact that their is no "Purpous" so to speak, its just grab the continents then lose them again, their is no overall aim, but, I still play, as I enjoy playing with the team in Renegade Legion :)

But yeah, rather than being condescending ill just say "I completely agree". There is no point. Its not like you level up or gain badges or ranks or something like that. And there is NOTHING else to do in it! No NPCs, no exploration to do, nothing to find.

Bah, im going to stop bitching about the game now. I think its a result of my disappointment, i really looked forward to the game and the idea of revolutionary, but i feel Sony failed pull it off....

i think it depends if you have the time to devote to it to justify you expense on it. i dont play it, because i dont have a decent connection and i would not have enough time to get any fun from it.

If Planetside was free it would have fallen shortly after release. You pay £8/month (which isn't a lot, at all) for use of 3 24/7 servers.

Wow you must have played for less than 5 minutes, takes 2 minutes to make it to Battle Rank 3 and develop your character.

You level up really quickly and can cap yourself in about a WEEK.

Then you get to allocate your skills in very rigid, flat structured skill tree.

A week? It took me 9 months to get to the highest battlerank. Still not maxed out on CR yet.

Once you get to BR20/CR5 then it kinda becomes lack of things to do, but, hopefuly the new additons will make it worth it again.

Been playing almost a year now. Tried other games like you UT's and Farcry but they last about 30mins top a night Planetside is the only game to keep me interest for almost every night for a number of hours. As far as the guy that claimed to have maxed out in a week thats a lie Br20 totals 1million Bexp most you could acheive per base in the early days was 7k and that took 15mins which if you acheived this maxiumum on each base which would be impossible thaen it would take 35hrs to do this based on 7k bexp every 15mins, then once you have reached br20 if you switched to Squad leading to acheive Command ranks you could acheive a maximum of 4.5k per hack based on a full squad who acheive 7kbexp. and so thats 4.5k every 15mins its about 500000 cexp to CR5. With the travel time between base and the amount of nme you'd have to kill per hack its just not possible it would take a best i'd say 3months to acheive BR20/CR5 playing approx 8-9hour per day every day for 3 months and you'd have to be very good.

The game its self started to slow down for me after 10months and a looked else were for a couple of weeks tried Neocron and other things but i came back and its all good again. There are new vehicle variants due this week or next and there are also going to be adding new continents and other improvements to come.

The game is bigger than any other fps and has a great community with regular empire events we had a 200+ player event a couple of weeks back with 30+tanks and aircraft also grunts etc

I tend to be a shadow member of RL, in the sense that I dont get many kills or make a presance of myself, Im just the support grunt.
