A friend showed me Terragen the other, and i thought it looked quite fun, so i gave it a shot.

it only took me a few minuites looking around to learn the basics, and with a few trys i made something that didnt look to bad.

the thing is, this took about 15 minutes to make (not including compiling) is Terragen serious? or is it just a random terain generator.

(another good thing, download is only about 3 mb)

edit,

opps, didnt see other thread, however, if you read carefuly you'll see this thread is asking different questions ^_^

thats nice steadders

as for how "serious" it is, i doubt it's used at all by the pro's

i get the feeling that terragen is to the graphics industry what windows movie maker is to the movie industry

but if anyone knows any different do correct me

its probably about as serious as Bryce, which again, means not *that* serious... its used by people who post stuff on deviant art and those who cant afford a legit copy of 3DStudio...

It also interfaces nicely with other terrain generators. So you can actually import terrain generated elsewhere. It also exports nicely into things like bryce for additional 3d shiz if need be.

so all in all, seems VERY good for a free 3mb download.

By the looks, Terragen is more about the rendering and shading than the modelling.

tbh i still cant get over that its only 3mb, apart from the fact that i havent put in a shore line, at first glance i reckon most people would mistake that for a real photo.
