Right i am NOT happy.

Schindlers List is my favourite film. I love it, so well made + such a moving story.

So as you can imagine, the announcement of the DVD release made me VERY excited as ive been waiting for it for a long time

and you can equally imagine then my dissappointment to find out that the complete and utter arsewits that have made this DVD have split the film onto 2 discs, meaning you have to stop and swap the disc halfway through

W T F

Not only is this not necessary as i know longer films that fit onto one disc (LOTR) but its not as if they've got lots of extras either (which could be put onto a seperate disc anyway)

which is another thing - the lack of any decent extras.

The film relies on a building up of mood + emotion, a break to change the disc spoils this mood, ruins the atmosphere and comepltely pisses me off.

I will be writing an extremely strong letter to the granny-tits that made this DVD and DEMANDING they re-release it on one disc

Complete and utter cockdongs

and yes that was a made up word.

how long is Schindlers List?

cos I know the 4-hour versions of LOTR have to be split across 2 discs else they'd look pants...

this is indeed perplexing...

Rip VOBs off both DVDs. Queue up in Media player. Watch consecutively. That's a decent enough solution for me anyway as I have my PC hooked up to my surround sound as well as the DVD player. Even so, I agree that for a film like that disc swapping is a shame. Thanks for the heads up on the DVD release though, I cry my eyes out every time I watch it, a very moving film well worth buying.

im sure they are both DVD-9's... but I guess they must have REALLY ramped up the audio and video quality to warrant 2 discs...

So I heard, the audio is all in DTS which apparantly takes up far more space (news to me). I saw a review somewhere. If I find it, i'll post it here.

I've not seen the film, but I'd like to. Its one of those films like Space 2001 or Planet of the Apes which you have to see one day :)

I'll try not to hijack the thread by saying this, but I wouldn't bother with 2001 if I were you, the book and the film were both written at the same time by clarke and kubrick, the book is ace, the film sucks.

As to Schindler's List, splitting a tense film over two discs is indeed a shame. I can only assume, as has been said, that there is an inordinate quality level for such a thing to occur.

Its a cost cutting technique.

My Starshop Troopers is a double sided DVD. It just suddenly stops! The first time I thought it was scratched and faulted in the machine - no prompt or instruction.

With Starship troopers they finally released a "normal" DvD with extras and all on one side.

Patience my friend. This film will get what it deserves:D

but Starship Troopers deserves nothing more than 'the bin'

bad example really :p:

It seems that the R1 version is double sided and the R2 version is split between discs... so it really must be too big for a single side of a DVD... unlike Starship Troopers where the R1 release was single sided/dual layered and the (original) R2 release was a double sided/single layered to save $$$ but the more recent R2 version is single sided/dual layered.

Anyway, for further comparisons see...

Surely the R2 release was double/single to save £££.

Or maybe €€€?

i have the double sided version of Armageddon too. In the days that it came out they changed due to public demand and they started making a dual layed version which u could exchange for free but I doubt that offer is still on

I have a few double sided ones. "The Rock" is double sided but I know they've re-released that now. They should offer some kind of discount for purchasing the same film again if you hand in the old one.

( BTW, "The Rock" is a film with Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery, I am NOT a wrestling fan. :p: )
