View Full Version : What key do you most hate???

Like OMG I hate the Num Lock key... at work I have to use the key pad all day and then I press Num Lock by accident and I get zoomed all around the spreadsheet and end up entering random data in random places!

I also hate the Start key, cos it messes thing up if you accidently press it in games! And the insert key, if I'm typing before text already there, it overwrites it.. and also the Power key! I mean ffs why put a Power key on a keyboard. They should at least put a plastic case over it so it can't accidently be pressed. And also at work I hate the print screen key, cos it is right next to F12, and I have to press F12 a lot. If I press Print Screen, it literally prints the screen and comes out the printer :|

Bleak

Probably the TAB key. Cause most games have it to look at the score, fair enough. but press it in a game of UT by mistake, and... oh wait, i can't move anymore!

Elbonio

the door key to my student house...

wasn't cut 'quite' right so I have to spend a second or two aligning it right before it will turn... annoying when drunk/hungover...

When laptop makers replace the start button with the 'Function' key and then move the start button into the middle of nowhere.

The F Lock key on my new keyboard. it's one of these s****y MS office jobbers which has the F keys double up as "Help", "Undo" etc. Bloody thing defaults to off, which means it's all the office functions. Also Scroll Lock and Break are doubled up, so when i want to switch on the KVM, half the time i hit Break twice

I hate the ` key (the one to the left of 1).
In some games, you click 1 to get the basic weapon. If you overshoot 1, you tap the ` key which is usually bound to the console for the game. The console drops down, you're thinking "Arrggh!" trying to get rid of it, and by the time you've sorted it out, you've been fragged.
Nice! :(

Same goes for TAB since TAB is usually used to show team scores. If you overshoot TAB, you click ` and do the whole console thing again.

As for the AltGr key, I find it is great for doing a three finger salute one-handed. AltGr-CTRL-DEL == CTRL-ALT-DEL

Any which don't bloody work when i want them to...

but to be specific i'd have to go with caps lock just due to the fact i usually accidently hit it in game whilst going for tab.

Deffo they F Lock key. Off by default which is annoying if playing quake3 or summit. Mines the logitech board and unlike MS boards I cant seem to find the reg hack to swap its function round so when its off the F keys act as FKeys and not some crappy functions

I hate keyboard that screw with normal keysizes. Like having small return key, or a short shift key!

Optimus
22nd April 2004, 10:59
or the latest idea... shortening Right Shift and using the extra space for a dedicated € key... WHY?!

Like the Logitech DiNovo. It's got rid of scroll lock, which no one ever uses anywa, and put print screen there. It's then put insert where print screen is. Where insert normally is there is an extra long delete key... WHY?!

i was forced to choose a key to lose when i made this 'mod' (the only mod ive ever done i might add)

I chose to lose Pause Break since i dont really use DOS enough anymore to warrant needing it...

but that might just be OSX issues :)

More setup issues, the keys are all configurable.

Macs also have the Command and Option keys which PCs don't

Optimus
22nd April 2004, 16:32
Option is essentially Control on a PC... and Command is Alt...

F1, because when I'm spamming Esc in AutoCAD, bringing up help when I miss is NOT what I want. Especially as on the **** machines at work it takes a good 10 secs to load the help :|

Try this under windows.

Hold the the RIGHT Ctrl and press Scroll Lock TWICE

Brilliant windows coding no?
If it does nothing to your machine, be happy, the setting is turned off but if it does something, yes... its intentional.

Will post tomoz what it does for those that don't already know :P

Not sure about any other uses of alt gr, but its useful for doing accents on vowels (its the same as doing ctrl + alt).

Comes in handy for me, as I cant spell my name properly without one :)

Well seeing as my keyboard is IBM and in it's teens i don't have a windows key to worry about :D

but what i do find annoying is at lans when ming/someotherrandomblueshirt steals my function keys and puts them back on in reverse or removes the letter keys and arranges them to spell things like... oh i dunno.. 'heronsux' perhaps? all along the middle row of the keyboard....

/me waves fist

lol i've done something like that before (although not exactly heronsux more like abcd etc along the keyboard)

btw

RIGHT Control and Scroll Lock twice causes a blue screen
But its meant to do that, its a manually initated blue screen, it actually gives that as its stop code aswell :D

How useful :o

The little WINDOWS button that minimises games. I always press it thinking im about to crouch to aim.

Maximise it again, and im dead. Or at the receiving end of a knife.

lol. Get a clue. Of course there are BSODs after 95/98/ME.

TimmyNoShoes
5th May 2004, 00:36
I think he means that after 98/ME you dont SEE, BSOD.
Although i havent tried this key combo myself

Sainteh
5th May 2004, 12:54
can you not read lol

i said it doesnt' work by default unless you turn the setting on and to do that i had to use a prog called X-Setup Pro which is like the daddy of all window tweaking progs.

And you do get BSOD's in higher windows platforms just that normally by default again, the comp is told to instantly reboot as soon as one happens and they also look different

I don't like my keyboard.

There's 3 buttons with a sun, moon and power thingy on them, which means the line with insert has been moved down.

Whenever I go to press delete I hit insert. Which annoys me as I then forget and overtype stuff

Grrrr PC Line cheap keyboards

Mandy

KingDaveRa
5th May 2004, 14:58
I hate generally smaller keyboards. I just cannot type on the damn things

I also hate 'extra' keys which replace other keys like with Totty's keyboard. I used to hit the power key on a mate's keyboard so much it was laughable. I was forever shutting the frigger down.

The Logitech keyboards annoyed me at first as they use the F-Lock key for the F-keys. I often hit F5 to refresh a web page and instead go back a track in Winamp! Conversely, I often want to change track forward, hit the key and nothing happens.

I find Sun keyboards mind boggling. They have a whole array of extra keys I can't figure out what the frigg they are for, but I'm sure they have a use. Probably for Vi or something ;)

I think I prefer a good, solid, old-fashioned IBM style keyboard, but with Windows keys. I have a Compaq server keyboard on my second PC here at work and it is sans-windows keys - it has a space for said keys, but no keys. Alt and Ctrl are shuffled up to make room for nonexist keys! I often press nothing to get the start menu up.

I'm fussy, can't you tell?
