Very ... interesting... I guess this throws the argument that PS3.0 does nothing for quality out the window. That full transparent water is lovely.

they could have done displacement maps on ps2.0 i'm sure. nice to have a showcase game though

First shots are done using pixel shader 1. PS3.0 still looks spiffy though.

That thing with the transparent water reminds me of when GLQuake had the maps VIS'd to have clear water.

All of the things I've seen lately about the 6th generation video cards looks very impressive. What I want to see is all these bells and whistles running at at least 50fps constantly, with something like a P4 2.4 powering it or something.

Sorry for the picture sizes, these are raw (untampered) screendumps from my system. Radeon 9700, Catalyst3.3 Very HIgh settings. And d3d9_PS20_NV30 (i think) has a value of 1, so it should be pixel shader 2

(edit) and this one (http://www.gavinterry.plus.com/FarCry0004.jpg)
no displacement/normal maps, but we have proper water. for some reason it doesn't want to play nice with the pics so they're links now

whats the command to make Far Cry use different shaders... I think mind is using 1.0... but then again, it sometimes looks like its using 2.0 as well...

it should just pick up the capabilities automatically, which is a shame because PS2.0 can do pretty much any effect that they've demoed using PS3.0 (the guy in the vid says as much). it's just nvidia want to pimp the GF6.
