It was in the welsh news...

Cant exactly work out why this would happen, unless both the girl and the boy from Swansea had managed to get out of the safety restraints...
the girl must have fallen off whilst the boy smacked his head or sumin...

/me plays Sherlock...

It was on Heart FM in Birmingham, although they don't do news to the detail of that website.

Its on BBC front page.

The girl fell while the coaster was on a steep angle, and (probably) her shoe caught the young lad on the head, he just sustained a cut. He didn't fall out...

Every now and again you hear about a death on a roller coaster, and it almost always ends up being someone who didn't use the restraints properly, or who deliberately stood up etc. Not passing judgement early, just commenting...

it was just on sky news with pictures..... well, with still photos of the ride provided by some1 navigating around a website with thumbnail pictures of the ride while Sky cameras film the monitor.

how professional of Sky. ;)

Aye was on GMTV thios morn, there was a 10yr old lad who fell aswell (aint read repoert yet) but he survived.

Just curious how they fell, were they too small for the harness or were they playing around standing up or summit ? (like in Blackpool when the lad tried to move from one carriage to the next and was killed)

the girl was 16 years old... was probably trying to show off for friends or something, stood up and slipped off...

Yeah, ermm. Did you read the article? It was a family holiday.

doesn't mean she wasn't messing around, or had friends with her or something... it just said her family are being consouled by police...

I dunno, its just given the safety record of Oakwood, I doubt a ride restraint would just 'fail'...

This is why I hardly ever go on rollercoasters.... plus I really am just a pansey when it comes to anything that.

Do you drive or ride in a car? You're about 10x more likely to die, per hour, doing that than riding a rollercoaster.

This is when you look at the coasters like Top Thrill Dragster and now understand at how much protection they give you. Its near impossible to even move once your in it. All coasters should be like this, you give someone enough space to move and what do you expect.. =/ When a ride op tells you not to put your arms in the air you bloody dont put your arms in the air, otherwise you end up with nasty bruses... ;P Especially when the thing is accelerating at some high speed.

Tsunami, I assume you didn't use the same Aus skydiving company that was investigated recently (well the investigations concluded recently) after the death of the presenter woman?

Any such ride will have been made as safe as it physically can be within reasonable financial restraints by engineers DESPARATE to avoid getting their genitalia sued off.

Sometimes these things just happen.

then lets go home now and have a nice hot bath followed by a bowl of rice pudding and then lets just go to bed

;)

Rollercoasters and major theme park rides in general have a great safety record - sure there are accidents but its rarely to do with ride failure and more often to do with human error - mostly on the part of the rider.

People acting stupid on a ride for example.

Modern day theme parks have so many safety systems on their coasters its difficult to imagine one ever crashing

the fact that everyone else on the ride is ok apart from these two people suggest to me that it's the girls fault... harsh as that may seem but its the facts

its a sad story though :(

Watching the BBC news before and they said the roller coaster had both a harness and bar. I can accept that one may have not worked properly but the likely hood of both?

As Afty said not passing judgement but most accidents happen on ride due to passengers not following safety instructions

A quick search on the web produces this site (http://www.themeparkinsider.com/accidents/list.cfm) which lists accidents @ theme parks.
It's a bit morbid I guess, and from reading the site you might think twice before getting on rides. But if you take no risks in life, are you even living?.
As for skydiving, despite it sounding and being a rather dangerous sport, the chances of you dying are extremely slim. For one your attached to an instructor / experienced skydiver, who love the sport and want to do it more than once. My only tip is make sure the chap your doing it with isn't feeling depressed :)

The harness and bar serve to help keep an ordinary punter in their seat during events involving G-Forces.

If the punter tries to escape from the harness, or does not follow fitting instructions, they won't work at all.
