Not one Personal accident claim ad?

They're deffinately the worst. No matter which company it is.

This needs an 'all of the above' button.

The trouble is, it prooves that these adverts actually are working. They annoy you, and things that annoy you, you tend to remember. I daresay you collected some of the quotes, but for the most part I bet you got them from memory. You know what the product is, you know who sells it, you even know how to get it.

To make matters worse, you're now passing that info onto more people who have already done all of the above, and are now having this info cemented into their memories.

Annoying ads are memorable ads. :)

I have to confess that I don't watch much TV these days, and most of what I watch is on BBC (so no adverts).

That said, I'm spending the weekend at my in-laws and they have NTL cable. I think the most brain melting ads that I've seen are the ringtone ads that seem to infest the music video channels. Whenever I see them, I just think "What kind of eejit thinks that beepy versions of chart tracks are cool?"

that carol vorderman one is pretty annoying too

i cant remember what it's advertising but she's got lots of CG things flying round her with writing on which she pulls from nowhere....

it's so obviously badly done that it makes me cringe

and the carol smiley savings one thing is annoying too where she goes round the house asking each member of the family what they would do with the money "i want to go to florida! I could do with a new car... one with alloy wheels and leather interior... etc"

oh oh and that life insurance one where he's going door to door and that guy buys all those gnomes with the money he saved...

there's so many.

adverts have definately got more americanised (and more annoying) over the past 10 years...

then again some of the really really american ones that you get as infomericals on at like 3am are actually extremely amusing. Ive spent hours watching those!

I must point out that personally, i like all Homebase adverts because i really really really really really really fancy Neil Morrisey.

I agree, all of those adverts are annoying, im a big advert fan and watch adverts more than TV programmes, but lately, in the avergae 3 minute ad break, you get 3 life assurance/car insurance/accident liability/loan offers/credit cards. And on cable channels like UK Style and UK Gold, all they show is those adverts.
Its a rareity these days that you find an advert actually trying to sell a product.

Incidently, i find the "new mint card" advert with the hamster very very annoying. And i find the 'egg card' adverts with the cockney sock very very amsuing.

I like talking about adverts. :)

its good that the Currys one has disappeared... possibly till next christmas (either that or its cos Linda Barker now works for MFI)...

my god working in that place was impossible with 'Currys... Always Cutting Prices' on every fifteen minutes...

Was a close call between HSA and the tone adverts (8181 was worse), but still pipped by HSA.

The finance ones just piss me off.
"If you've already proved you can't be trusted with money, we'll give you some more." :madgo:

Did you make a fist, extend your little finger and hold it up to the corner of your mouth when you clicked post?

Clearly, the HSA advert. Generally I have my TV on in the background tuned to the Paramount Comedy Channel, which is sadly one of the worst offenders for insurance, loan and used car adverts. I have managed to tune all of them out, except the HSA advert. It's SO ****ing annoying, it never fails to break my concentration.

Oh, yeah, the Carol Smiley advert. One of those schemes where you give them a minimum of £10 a month and there's a chance you *might* get some of it back.

That basically annoys me because some ****wits will actually enter into these schemes. You might as well send your money to a Nigerian prince. But people must do it because the company has enough money to pay for an advert on TV AND got a minor celeb to pimp the scam.

Oh, and the old insurance advert where the guy falls off the ladder? He obviously throws himself off to get the claim money. That's fraud you know. :D

Elbonio
10th April 2004, 13:29

1188888 arent though

KingDaveRa

I like the 118118 guys. They make me laugh.

Incidentally, my mum reckons that the two seventies guys in the BTOpenworld TV advert is me and a mate. She says there's loads of similarities.

Hmm.

I do like the Tiscali adverts with the slow downloads though. The music alone is great :)

The ring tone ads. By a country mile.

Also the one for insurance with the charlies angels woman/ james bond guy is getting on my pecs.

....and the diet coke woman, walking along and singing. If I was in that ad, I'd jump her for her bag of "Infinite Diet Cokes"!

Elbonio
10th April 2004, 19:47
I wouldnt take an opened bottle of coke from a complete stranger in the street anyway....

However, when the HSA advert starts, I think, hmm, interesting, might be worth a look-in, then they start that ****e chanting and I pick up the phone to Bupa. It was exactly the same with their previous advert, some annoying animal shouting too much.

Elbonio
12th April 2004, 15:46
i use 118118 based purely on the comedy of their adverts

despite them being the most expensive and worst one of all the directory enquiries :D

and i know what you mean - look at BUPA's advert compared to HSA

it gives you a bit more confidence....

voted for the yes car ******s but my real hated ads are the ones for kids having dumps.
one is advertising kiddy bog paper and the other a smell fresh odoriser.

surely would be simpler to just flush the kids away and not have to buy either products no?
what next?
'hey I buy this bog paper (shows brand) cause it gets this much (shows used paper to camera) off my ring!'

ffs :<

As another thing, what about cinema adverts, have any of you seen the "MOVIE TICKETS DOT COM" adverts :\
or even worse the little indain boy who trains the elephants with a can of pepsi, but no, this is no ordinary can of pepsi its at least 100% bigger than a normal can of pepsi and resembles a bucket!
