No i haven't. I tried the first one, but i was annoyed be the restrictions in how many units you could build. And according to reviews that is even "worse" (though the designers think its better) in Homeworld 2. ie, only very few units of one time.
I know a bit of a problem i Starcraft as well - i miss the original Red Alert - MASSIVE armies :)

Well you didnt try hard enough to get bigger fleets. A tool was released that let you alter teh SU's carries, mothership provided. Even on a 3Gig PC with ATI 9800 256Mb, 1Gb RAM we have crippled them with large fleets.
It is nice to see htem all driving in a pretty formation howecer when two fleets get together and start firing you might as well call the game a draw since it gets that laggy

Its not a question of "trying hardenough" either the game supports it or it doesn't. One can't bank on perhaps someone will make a hack.

You could also say from your post you arnt capable enough to play a proper manly strategy game.
Its all very well being able to build an arm of tanks and rush your opponent, but it takes skill to have a handful of units and have to build a balanced force to win
