Well I had the chance to play this game at i19 recently and came away rather impressed. The single player campaign looks like a good, immersive experience. The multi player looks good. I wasn't in the beta like a few of my mates so had to mulch around waiting for it to come out.

Anyway, multi player was rather splendid. Very tactical, ala Raven Shield / Battlefield, and not a fast shooty game like Quake. The spawn points on the island level we played were extremely curious - spawning behind someone on a static machine gun guarantees a kill and is extremely frustrating if you are on that machine gun.

The weapon balance seemed very wrong. I got the distinct impression that the bigger the machine gun, the harder it was to kill someone. The pistol was quite capable of knocking the crap out of someone in one or two shots. The sub machine guns fired bullets which were just absorbed by all and sundry, with or without armour and it was very very irritating to go one-on-one with someone and die from their pistol after they sucked down 4-5 or more shots from your P90.

Also, logitech keyboards seem a no-no for this. I was almost considering getting a DiNivo bluetooth effort to play this on, but from the experience I had with the keyboards at i19, I won't be buying many more logitech products in future :(

I really enjoyed the experience myself. i didn't get a chance to see the single player side of it but the multiplayer seemed really fun although i find that the rocket launcer did kill people far to easily.

I also very much enjoyed it - it's nice to see an FPS where cover and concealment actually make some difference, and the objective based modes are like Wolfenstein but require a greater emphasis on 'real life' tactics like covering fire and bounding overwatch.

Some of the defensive structures that can be built also add a big challenge to 'getting there quickly' before they can be set up, but they tend to suck people into being too far away from the flagpole to get there if people get past them - a tweakable flag timer might be in order.

my key criticism is the massive imbalance of the rocket launcher, with which I singlehandedly won an objective game (killing all four defenders). I wonder if most games will just turn it off?

The G36's grenade launcher is also very short ranged compared to that of the OICW, which is annoying considering it's single shot compared to up to 5 from the OICW. And why do you have to switch to the GL the first time to reload it?

I had a chance to participate in the multiplayer tournament, being a member of team Kenya. We consisted of 4 staff members called Lion, Tiger, Giraffe and Zebra and got joint third overall by getting to the semi final after losing to DUFF.

I thought the multiplayer was very good, but yes some of the weapons need tweaking. For example reducing the blast radius on the rocket launcher and the damage increased for the sub machine guns.

Al in all I really enjoyed it and will be taking a much more active role in Farcry next LAN event.
