The Hotel
LONG LINK GOD DAMMIT! (http://www.nyc.com/go.aspx?bkurl=%2fhotels%2fholiday_inn.aspx&url=http%3a%2f%2fwww.travelnow.com%2findex.jsp%3fpageName%3dhotAvail%26cid%3d4092%26hotelID%3d149429 %26showInfo%3dtrue&s=4&n=Holiday+Inn&sn=Holiday+Inn+Martinique) (Thanks to Alipuk)
The hotel is based on 1 room, with 2 people sharing. I sugest that you find someone who you wouldnt mind sharing a room with, then sort out who will become the "room head" and be incharge of booking a room, and paying the deposit / bill. The other person in the room, should then pay the "room head"

CHECK YOUR PASSPORT
A British Passport is machine readable when the white strip at the foot of the personal data page (at the back of the passport) bears 2 lines of print. If there is no white strip, or the white strip is blank, then the passport is not machine-readable.
Machine Readable Passports (i.e. the current type of British passport) issued up to and including 25 October 2004 are valid for visa-free travel to the US until the passport expires.
Machine Readable Passports, issued from 26 October 2004 onwards will need a visa attached by the US Embassy to permit travel to the USA.
The US has granted an extension of its Visa Waiver Programme to holders of non-machine-readable British passports travelling to the United States.
Flight Prices
There are a few options. We can either fly directly into JFK and take a cab to wherever we stay, Flight prices for this are currently about £350 return. Last time i flew into JFk, i paid $200 + tip for a limo to the hotel. I love stretchy cars :)
The other option, is to fly into Newark, and then bus/train into the city. Flight prices into Newark are currently about £250 return. ive never had to make my way to the city from newark, because I get picked up by friends, so unsure on methods.
You can check the best flight prices from here:

Not gonna bother with the Bus / Railway information, as they all seem to go to Queens or the bus station on 169th street. (WAYYY OUT OF THE WAY)
Cost Per Person
Nothing set in stone yet, but here is a breakdown of the costs.
Hotel:
£967.54(GBP) Total (based on 2 sharing a room so half the figure £489.77)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Visa Waiver Programme
The US operates a Visa Waiver Programme (VWP), available to most British Citizen passport holders travelling on business, pleasure or transit from where they normally reside and who intend to stay in the US for less than 90 days. From 26 October 2004, all British passport holders, including children, travelling to the USA under the VWP will need their own machine-readable passports (MRP). From 26 October 2004, anyone without a MRP, including children who are currently on a parent's passport, will need a visa to travel to the USA. For further details on entry requirements for the USA, check: American Representation in the UK (http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1007029396086&a=KDiplomaticList&aid=1013618544067). or telephone 020 7499 9000, option 1.Have a look here (http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket%2FXcelerate%2FShowPage&c=Page&cid=1007029390590&a=KCountryAdvice&aid=1013618385531)

UK Passports
All British Passports currently issued in the UK, and the vast majority of those issued at British Missions overseas, are machine-readable. However, some older passports and some issued by British Missions overseas are not. Before travelling to the US and seeking entry under the VWP, you should check your passport. A British Passport is machine readable when the white strip at the foot of the personal data page (at the back of the passport) bears 2 lines of print. If there is no white strip, or the white strip is blank, then the passport is not machine-readable. Further information on UK passports is available from the UK Passport Service website:

In my *many* stays in NYC, I have found this is one of the best places, and you have choices on dorms, rooms etc.
This place is :
Secure,
Gives 24hr access,
Is almost next to Madison Sq :-)
Is about 5 mins walk from Times sq,
Secure lock box, (Large enough for lappies etc)
Is cheap,
Is Cheap
is CHEAP
The staff are mostly brits (Or have seemed to be every time i've stayed)
Link HERE (http://www.starhotelny.com/rooms.html#rates)
There is a pub next door, which is a classic NY pub, with juke which always seems to play 'Jump around' - *THE* NY anthem ;-)
(Run by a a scouser)
If anyone wants more info of where to go, or what to do etc, let me know (Silly things, like you can get free 'net access and fax service in the NY Hilton, if you ask properly ;-) )

newyorkhabitat do rentals for apartments / studio's on a day to day or week to week basis etc. The prices are quite reasonable as well. They have some VERY nice places on offer as well.

Right Peeps,
I have just dropped an e-mail off to see if i can get a penthouse.
I asked for at least 8 spaces, although until they come back to me, i am unsure what they can do.
If they say they can do 8 spaces, i will put down some definate prices, etc. First 8 who want to go and pay get it i guess.
If they can do more than 8, then kick ass. :D If more people want to go, i will try and see if i can get a second place nearby or something. For now its all planning :)

Right,
Now there is the issue of WHICH AIRPORT!
JFK or NEWARK!
To Fly to JFK is about £100 more, BUT! it doesnt take very long to get into the heart of the city from there.
Or, we fly into NEWARK which is about the £250 mark, and make our way into the city via bus/train etc.
DEBATE :)
Im up for JFk and dont mind paying the extra £100 for it.
Cast your votes plz

From the list below, i would recomend the bus, as it goes to the bus station on 42nd street, its then a 20 min walk to the hotel, or a quick jump in a taxi from the taxi rank outside the bus station.
Ground Transport Options from NEWARK to manhattan.
Super VIP LIMO! (Stretched)
works out about $300 + tip
Standard Limo (Car)
about $150 + tip
Monorail connection to NJ Transit train station
Every 3 minutes for monorail, every 15 minutes for train, weekdays 6am-9pm; every 20 minutes on weekends 6am-9pm. Less frequent until 2am; no service 2-5am
$11.55
Olympia Express Bus to Port Authority, Grand Central & Penn Station.
Every 20 minutes
6am - midnight
Every 30-60 minutes
midnight - 6am
$11
Taxi
Available 24 hours
at taxi stands
$50 + tips + tolls
Gunsmith
22nd January 2004, 15:25
can we get a hum-vee based limo?
Noodleman
22nd January 2004, 16:14
Transport from JFK
SuperShuttle Manhattan Car service
Will take directly to the hotel, costs $17 - $19 + tip
Taxi
$35 Flat rate +tolls + tip to the hotel
Not gonna bother with the Bus / Railway information, as they all seem to go to Queens or the bus station on 169th street. (WAYYY OUT OF THE WAY)

22nd January 2004, 16:39
fairly cheap :)

personally I WILL be flying to JFK, works out a lot cheaper for me :) and more flights ;)
Murray-Mint
22nd January 2004, 18:58
OK, Murray-Mint's room is now open for bookings! The hotel apparently do a 3 person room, so with the money saved, you can fly to JFK!
1.) Murray-Mint
2.) Gemz (Maybe)
3.) Empty
The room comes to £367.24 per person, I will be booking in the next two weeks.
See post below for flight info...
Typical Murray-Mint booking system, I'd like £100 deposit off of people to confirm their place (with payment of the rest of the balance later in the year).

From LHR To NYC, the only airlines allowed to operate this route are British Airways, United Airlines, Virgin Airlines, and American Airlines.
United took over from Pan Am on the route, when Pan AM went to the wall.
If you do see an airline advertising the route LHR to NYC then the routing will probably have some change of aircraft at another airport.
