Ok, this is a first draft CoC and is subject to change.

Also i'll point out that it was shamelesly stolen from the now defunct bygames and adapted for our purposes. :D

Code of Conduct

The Multiplay Day of Defeat servers are open for anyone to play on, but there are rules we would like you to follow whilst you use them.

Breaking the Code of Conduct does carry a penalty and there are server admins to make sure that the CoC is obeyed. If you break the CoC whilst on the server you will be told what you are doing wrong and warned by a server admin. Failure to comply with this warning will result in you being kicked from the server or being banned from the Multiplay servers. The length of time you are banned for depends on the offence.
Below is a rough guide to ban lengths. The length will be increased if it is a repeat offence or if the offence is severe. Also be aware that admin discretion may be used in determining punishment

Offence & Penalty

Offensive or abusive language: 1 day - 1 week (racist behaviour will likely carry a harder penalty)
Intentional teamkilling: 1-2 weeks
Exploiting map bugs: 2 weeks
Cheating: permanent

If at any time while you are playing DoD on our servers and you encounter any of the above, you can do one of two things:

1. Warn them. Some players will realize what they are doing wrong and stop. Just inform them politely where they are going wrong. Remember a warning from a player is as good as a warning from an admin.

2. If no admin is available, or you feel that the person should be punished get some evidence and give it to an admin in irc after your game.

The best way to do this is with screenshots or demos. You will also need to take the persons won id. The best way to do this is to go to the console and type "users" or "status". When the info comes up take a screenshot of it (this is done by typing "snapshot" in console. When you have this collect any screenshots of the actual event happening (i.e the person team killing - you will be able to see the name of the person and their victim in the top right) and put it in a zip file. Include the name of the person and the wonid in the zip files name if you can. Then just send it to an admin. You can find us on IRC - #mpukdod on Quakenet.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE TAKE THE "LAW" INTO YOUR OWN HANDS. DO NOT KILL A TEAM KILLER OR TEAM WOUNDER IN RETALIATION. ALSO IF YOU THINK SOMEONE ON THE SERVER IS CHEATING DON'T ACCUSE HIM/HER OF CHEATING OR USE ABUSIVE LANGUAGE AGAINST THEM. CALL AN ADMIN OR GET SOME EVIDENCE AND GIVE TO AN ADMIN AFTER THE GAME. THERE ARE SOME EXCELLENT PLAYERS OUT THERE AND IT IS NOT FAIR ON THEM IF THEY GET ABUSED OR INSULTED EVERY TIME THEY PLAY ON A PUBLIC SERVER.

Code of Conduct - the details

You must own a licensed copy of the game, unless the game is a demo or shareware/freeware
Nicknames are not registered within each game therefore the choice of nickname is the player's decision. However, inappropriate nicknames such as abusive or swear words are not permitted
Do not use profanity or sexually explicit language
Do not engage in personal attacks
Do not abuse someone because of their race, colour, sex, or religious beliefs
Do not provoke others or cause trouble. If you wish to argue with people make use of ICQ or email
Be forgiving of other's mistakes
Do not use a nickname that breaks any of the Code of Conduct
Do not flood or spam chat of any description; this includes repeated use of capitals
Do not post URLs that point to inappropriate content, such as pornography, illegally distributed software, cheats or virus applications
Do not use offensive or pornographic decal/logo sprays
Do not cheat on the servers; this includes game specific exploits
Do not access map areas that are not intended to be reached or break the map in anyway whatsoever; this includes causing the balance of the map's game play to sway in your team's favor
There is a 9pm watershed for swearing although discretion will be exercised depending on the context of the language. Extreme swearing is never permitted
Do not team kill or team wound on purpose for any reason, this includes retaliation. Should an accidental team killing or team wounding occur it should be followed by an apology
Do not idle on a server. Discretion will be exercised and it is up to the admin to decide if the player has been idling for too long
Do not impersonate other players
Do not impersonate admins
Do not be abusive towards admins
Deliberately using map features or architecture to kill your teammates will be classed as team killing
No unsporting conduct e.g. blocking doors, excessive grenade spamming of choke points and preventing map objectives from being accomplished
No spawn camping
Multiplay reserves the right, to use third party programs to scan players' computers when using blueyonder servers. Players agree to this by 'clicking' the OK button when joining the game. These programs ONLY scan for specific 'cheat' software files. If you disagree or object to this, we can only recommend you join another server.

Note: At all times the admin's word is final. Additionally a warning from a player is as good as a warning from an admin.

If you have any ideas of your own to add, or think something should be changed, nows the time to let us know.

Thanks

Really, is this necessary?, is the DOD community that bad?

Pretty much everything listed above is common sense / minimum standards for any online game.

THERE ARE SOME EXCELLENT PLAYERS OUT THERE AND IT IS NOT FAIR ON THEM IF THEY GET ABUSED OR INSULTED EVERY TIME THEY PLAY ON A PUBLIC SERVER.

But its ok to abuse & insult players who arent excellent?. The code of conduct is repeating itself in several places, and needs tidying up.. Here you go.. A shorter version..

Code of Conduct

Respect other players

There you go, a summarised version of your COC. :)

Tsunami - It's how BY was run. It gave us the right that they had adhered to the rules when they joined the server.

This made playing on BY and why so many ppl did an enjoyable time.

It had a great community, and they knew what they could and couldn't do.

your right, it is all common sense, but that doesnt stop people deliberately setting out to ruin others games.

If we have a well laid out CoC :D it makes it easier to deal with any situations, hopefully it wont need enforcing that much. By had a great community and servers to go with it because of the way they were run, (as far as admins were concerned anyway).

The code of conduct is repeating itself in several places, and needs tidying up.

yes...thats why i posted it here as a "1st draft"
