Hello ppl,

Uprising 9
Attendance: 14

not much more i can say on that - except a huge thanks for the those that did turn out

So ppl, we need your help. Help in finding out if hosting lan events in scotland has a future. ie frequency, too often? too few? none at all? too dear? too cheap? not enough prizes? too many prizes? food: good? bad? badly run? well run? too far away? not far enough?(maybe some people perfer long car journeys) too cold? :P too hot? admin too ugly? ;) or not?

Basically ANY reason at all, Please let us know

Pretty Please :D

Still gutted tbh...

I think that this lan was too soon for most ppl.. Thats why all the ppl i knew werent going, basicaly cause it was too soon from the last one. From like 90 ppl to 14 .. gawd :(

DONT STOP THE LANAGE !

I think its a multitude of reasons m8

Its mostly run well although i think the tournements could be run abit better ;)

I think its way too expensive for what is actually on offer m8 for example first place at upr9 won about 25 quid worth of prizes whereas q3 1st place won about 50-70 quid worth.

i guess once u hit 100 mark it will be better though.

Alot more publicity wouldnt hurt either ;) i know gibby has been doing his best @ the unis and colleges in glasgow but you still need to advertise it in the cs community maybe get some people from england to go :)

You could be right about us holding the events too close together but we have always tried to hold bimonthly LANS so funnily enough that’s every 2nd month :p:

As a team we have discussed this and it will be studied for next year. Would every 3 months be better, as we don’t really want to only hold 2 events a year.

We have always tried to keep the prizes for each tournament equal and i feel we have done a good job so far so you may wish to check bout that prizes comment n3m pm me in irc and we can talk bout that :)

Now we can't do much now about the poor turnout at the event just there however we have a list off all people who attend each event and those who showed over the weekend there will get a reduced admission price of £20 for the next event.

We are also looking at possibly awarding people who bring 2 or more Uprising Virgins ( ppl who haven’t been to an Uprising event) so stay tuned for that.

Cheers Mooney

every 3 months is easier, gives us poor students time to save up =]

id have to go with that N3M said about not promoting it enouth in the CS community and other Communitys for that matter.

Also maybe make SOME admins a bit more mature.

Maybe do a bit more that 2 tournys, im sure if people see u running more than a Q3 and CS tournys, alot more people would go.

get some older and alittle drunk gymnasts.

First off not many people will give up there weekend to admin an event for no pay, hence why we dont have 10 admin.

With this lack of admin we can't run any more than 2 and if we where to run more tourneys then we would have to limit ppl to the number they could enter, we would run out of time and end up with timetabling conflicts.
The 2 tourneys don't need to be CS and Q3 however that is what the majority off attendees play.

We also have had post on various CS sites like UK Terrorist regarding our lan however if you have any other sites that you may think help then email me the url and i'll contact the admin about some pimpage :)

I agree with everyone. First off their isnt enough promotion for the event and it wasnt being promoted early enough therefore ppl were just finding out about it but it was too late to save up etc. Secondly I agree that the LAN's should be held every 3months this would mean 4 a year and ppl would have time to save for events. Lastly I think the next event should be held on November 28th - 30th as I agree with Mooney most ppl will have spent all there money after Christmas/New Year and it would be classed as the last LAN of the year.

End of the month is always good because people get paid etc etc.

I think BiMonthly lans is a little too ambitous, maybe even every 3 months is also to ambitious. Perhaps every 4. Easter, summer and october?

I think they have always been well run when I have went.

You definatley need more publicity, i never saw a single Uprising poster, anywhere. You also need to publicise prizes better, if people know they are going to be winning a good prize, they will come.

I also think that £30 is a bit steep in price if im entirely honest. £20 would be brillient but i reckon the old £25 mark was a better price.

That said, keep up the good work and keep uprising alive.

i couldn't make it due to work although i did email someone about that.
with 'lil poor me staying in inverness every 2 months is just too many to attend, seeing as i have to take friday off work to make it and win all the prizes.

talking about prizes i was a little disappointed at the last event i attended (8). i was on the winning cs team and i got the same prize as the guy sitting next to me who finished 2nd in q3. but anyway as i dont go expecting to win im not really bothered but if i was really good, then the prizes might put me off, maybe ;) (would b0b take his marine mates along to win a PSU or mouse mat each?)

another thing is that maybe a set timetable for the tourny's could be used so that before you get there you know what time they start or something. seeing as in the past i have been sitting there wondering how long till the tourny and wondering if i can go for a wander around lovely livi. and yes i do know that there has never been a lan event that ran to time before but hey, thought i'd mention it anyway.

so basically - for me it's too far away for me to go every 2 months and also the prizes offer no extra incentive to go. the two events i'v attended have been on the whole good fun so i will go again when i can.

Some good stuff coming up on here, thanks ppl

on prizes, we've been actively been discussing a large cash prize for our november lan.. motherboard, gfx cards and cpus are a bit out of our reach at the moment but if you know of any kind considerate sponsors with some freebies please get intouch :)

and how many lans have u been to where there are 14 attendees and 16 prizes are given out lol

although in reality for such a small lan we feel we have given out some really cool cases from CCM among other prizes, basically the more peeps the better the prizes will get.... oh yea btw Quote-Mooney: "not many people will give up there weekend to admin an event for no pay, hence why we dont have 10 admin" though any help offered would be much appreciated :D

"We need YOU!" hehe

Duck: on bob and the marines... they have been to 3 or 4 events already and have always to our knowledge had a great time although bob wont be allowed in next time unless he brings along his own sick bags ;P

As i've said - some great responses were getting here so keep em all coming and hopefully we'll make the next lan the biggest yet :D

You can't moan about the price and prizes at the same time as the lower the price the lower the prizes are.

The price has only increased as the cost of the building increased and what you need to remember is we usually giving away 20 prizes to tournaments and then the raffle, which usually consist of a nice case and some bits and pieces.

If we could consistently get 80+ ppl then that could attract more interest form sponsors and thus better prizes would be on offer.

:)

i wasn't complaining about prices, and the thing about the prizes is just that the first one i went to marines won and got lovely cases and stuff, then the next one i went to i was part of the winning team and got a PSU which i still haven't found a use for.

and i am sure b0b et al have a good time at the lans, just like everyone else :)

as much as i would like to attend all the uprisinglans i just can't 'cos im a bit away :/

and the bacon rolls are good :D

Hey guys never been to one of ur LANs but would consider coming along with a few mates if there was different game competitions run apart from Q3 and CS. I know me and my mates would seriously consider coming if there was a MOHAA tournament run as this is our forte u could say.

Like i say i never been to ur LAN but i offer my suggestion to help u guys out as that last LAN musta really disappointed the organisers as they put in alot of work.

Hiya guys,

Ive never been to a LAN before but would well be up for it, especialy now with my new hitachi TFT and radeon 9800 XT arriving next week:p:

I was wanting to know if i need 5 players to come or would i be able to just join in? Also will i need to re-install CS without steam? Plus anything else i should know.

For me i can play anytime so November is great.

You don't need to bring 5 other people with you and if your worried about getting a team for the tournaments theirs always teams of 4 who just need that extra player to help.
At the last event we played with CS 1.5 as you could only play 1.6 with an internet connection which we didn't have at the venue however this time round valve are working on a patch that allows you to play on a LAN without being connected to the internet so hopefully we will benefit from this.

cheers Mooney

Incase you haven't guessed, we (lizardware) are looking for more than games of CS (still give that a go) and Q3(that too), i have posted several times on other threads and got a response for urban terror and warcraft 3 but i was wondering if anyone was looking for a game of Halo (just released) at the next lan, the multi is gr8 fun.

Any other ideas for other games from neone else????

PS: I hope that CS patch is out in time, i look forward to trying it out. Also bf1942 and mohaa are options :-)

warcraft 3 (yes), urban terror (hell no), halo (yes), bf1942 (yes \o/), mohaa (laff no)

on and off during the lan nearly everything gets played, just q3 and cs are the prize games =]

as for suggestions your better off asking in irc #uprising (irc://uk.quakenet.org/uprising) as the forums are (as you could have guessed) sadly not used by the majority.

some points.

I've been to uprising twice before, but prolly cant go again cause moonlight says he's gonna kill me. but.

I think the LAN is generally a good thing, people are ace, location is decent, and it has alot of good things going for it. To make a real turnover you need alot of exposure.

When in france at the ESWC, all i saw were big banners of companys names, EVERYWHERE.. you need to get in contact with some companys that are scottish based, tell them the situation and just generally get something decent from them. But of course they wont be interested in sponsoring a lan no one has ever really heard of, so thats the other problem, getting a large attendance. To do so you need to have sh*t hot prized to make people and full clans wanting to go. Which is hard cause you need the sponsorship b4 you get the prizes ;) But i'm sure you can work at that with no problem.

You could also work with the LAN centers in scotland, theres one in grangemouth and i know the guys who run it, im sure i can have a word (i get free entry cause im pro! ;p). anyway i gotta go, teabreak calls...will finnish this later :p

Are prizes really that important? I go to a lan party to have fun, not win stuff. Bin the prizes (minus the ones you get from sponsorship) I reckon.

thanks for your support guys :)

Chron you'd be safe as long as u didnt leave the building :P

We know there a some of you who come for a laugh but we also need to attract new people to the events and they won't come the first time unless they think theres something in it for them.

thanks for the input lads
