Just a little poll for you car enthusiasts out there. I cant decide which i like more, the VW Golf R32 (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/new_cars/golf_hatch/r32) or the Audi S3 3.2 Quattre DSG (http://www.audi.co.uk/newcars/specs.jsp?section=/models/a3/a3&modcode=8P1B1L++00).
Both are similarly price, and performance stats on both are almost equal. Opinions please :)

Has to be the Audi, i have driven both and the S3 is much better for handling and general driver enjoyment!

I might buy a civic type-r but have decided to wait until feb 2004 when the new spec one comes out, if i like it i may buy it as a second car.

Audi no contest
The Golf continues to look more bloated as its revised. Must be following the age of its original designer or something.
Oh and the audi website says that the insurance group is 0, must be the choice for cheep insurance then!!

Neither really :) If I had to choose, would be the Golf over the S3 as I've heard only good things about it, as opposed to only bad things about the Audi...

Ifyou want one of these my mate is selling one. although it have a 3 litre engine if i remember rightly, fully rally roll cage, 2 seats, mk1 golf in perlescent purple. Fast as f**k car.
In his current finanacial state he would probably accept offers over £1000

Skoda, VW and Audi are all the same company by the way - those are the three different brands in ascending order of luxury.

So Audis are more luxurious than the VW Phaeton? Could have fooled me... ;)
JeRkY

and the vw phaeton is as luxurious as a LWB A8 ...could have fooled me. i think bvark was talking about branding, and independant of the models the manufacturers produce, audi is the more luxurious brand.

i'd go with the audi personally. love the build quality and everything about my A4 (except the servicing costs)
would love to get one but insurance would kill me. currently paying £2500 a year for a group 13 never mind the group 20 the S series cars are!

I'm mulling over the new A3s at the moment. So expensive. So opulent.

It's not what they can afford, it's what they want.

Incidentally, the Quattro 3.2l DSG is currently still down as an A3 - not an S3.
I too was expecting it to be called an S3, but I would hazard a guess that maybe Audi have a little something special planned for next year?
I sincerely hope that they do, because in its' current incarnation the A3 needs at least 1.5 large spending on extras over and above the list price - I mean no leather interior as standard?
That doesn't deserve the "S" badge, I'll be waiting to see if they come out with something that does :)
Just checked on my configurator - my chosen A3 3.2l Sport needs a total of £1955 spending to get it up to spec.
Not good enough, show me the genuine S3 plz :)

I would begrudgingly pick Audi over VW if for some terrible reason I was only limited to those two manufacturers to get a car from. As the cars are all similar I'd be fickle and get the posher one.
