I've seen pretty much every IMAX film there is as we're lucky enough to have an IMAX in Manchester.
However last night I went to see The Matrix: Reloaded on IMAX and can i just say...
oh
my
gosh
it ROCKED!
Want to see the matrix code with characters bigger than you?
Want to experience the freeway scene with trucks as big as planes?
Want to see trinity with breasts the size of your house? (and im not joking or exaggerating)
Then go to the nearest IMAX thats showing it and prepare to be amazed!
the only thing I will say is it's a tad expensive at £7.50 per head but it's defaintely worth the price
and those of you who havent been to an IMAX and are thinking "why would I want to pay £7.50 for a movie i have already seen" then just remember: We're talking about a screen that is EIGHT STOREYS HIGH
its a big ass screen.
go. now.

I've been to numerous Imax's but never seen a blockbuster on, its normally stuff like "explore the north pole" and other discovery movies.
Would be rather cool to see a proper movie on instead :)

Saw it in Toronto, where the screen is a fair bit bigger than the Manchester one. Bloody awesome.

Been to the London one and saw the 3D show. Bloody amazing, but those glasses make your eyes sore towards the end.

IMAX is generally poo.
We have one in Bournemouth.
Its failing miserably because you pay a premium price to watch some piece of crap documentary less than an hour long.
There are precious few REAL movies available on the IMAX format.... however... if Matrix:Reloaded comes our way, I'll definitely consider it.

I saw it at the London one and I have to say the screen was too big! 24fps is just not enough either: it was doing my head in at first. It also appeared to be cropped at times to fit the screen. Awesome though. And the 3D trailers were amazing.

normal IMAX's are dead cheap here
£1.50 per film
however the matrix was £7.50
worth it though
I will say that about 2 hours was enough for me
when they show lord of the rings they're going to have breaks because it's too long to watch all in one go - it certainly can make your eyes + neck tired

OMG! In London it was £11.50 for the Matrix and it's £7.50 for the other features!

it costs more than that to see a normal film at the odeon in bournemouth so i suspect the imax is an even bigger rip off, any idea how much it costs there squire ? i've walked past it but never bothered going in as they never seem to have the space one on it's always the water one which doesn't interest me :(
reloaded on it though sounds funky :)

My bro works at the Bournemouth IMAX.
He's just confirmed they are getting Matrix Reloaded.
There is also the possibility they are getting Matrix Revolutions at or near release time, though somehow I doubt it.
I think their standard prices are £6.50. No idea what it will be for matrix. Odeon prices are about the same, but at least you get to see a real movie there :D

I heard rumours that revolutions was coming out in IMAX simultaneously....

aye get your self up to your local IMAX, the 3D films are great (esp the haunted house) if you live near Bradford, get your self to the photograpy museum this still holds the UKs first and largest IMAX screen (second being the London Screen)
Reading seom facts about Imax
The world's largest IMAX screen is in Sydney, Australia
IMAX uses the largest film ever invented in motion picture history _ ten times the size of films used for normal movie screens.
IMAX film is strong enough to pull a truck
If a piece of wood was held in front of the projector light beam it would spontaneously combust
The average IMAX screen is 4,500 times bigger than an average TV screen
So elb how long as the Manchester one been open?? and you deffo say Matrix its worth seeing at the IMAX ?

Saying all that thought Matrix isnt even on (as far as I can see) in Bradford :(

Yikes, me and my mates payed £6 each to see Matrix:reloaded and would have been £4.50 if we used our NUS cards :ashamed:

The IMAX opened at The Filmworks in Manchester about 2 or 3 years ago.
The Filmworks is my local cinema and i love it to bits. it has 18 screens but thats not the good bit - it has the 3 largest cinema screens in Europe (not including IMAX screens) and a digital projector in one of the screens of which there are only 3 or 4 in the country, not to mention SDDS sound (sony digital sound whereby there are speakers above your head aswell) in 2 of the theatres.
Also there is the Gallery - film viewing luxury. Pay £10 and you get unlimited popcorn, unlimited soft drinks, unlimited nachos plus waiter service and you get to sit on a blacony above the scum in huge leather sofas with tons of leg room and the best bit is: no under 18's so theres no kiddies to annoy you
they also do this great thing where every tuesday they re-show old classics like resevoir dogs, apocalypse now, the godfather - great if you werent born when they first came to the big screen!
for those of us who will accept only the best (perfectionsts like me) then The Filmworks is the only place i'll go these days unless forced otherwise

Yeash I went to Niagara, really good. A lot more impressive than I anticipated. Didn't do anything with choppers, couldn't really afford it.
Maybe when I'm a multi trillionaire eh? :)

Or the lion king -_-
Why is imax marketed so badly? Yes its expensive but if they showed real movies it would be so much more popular.

Bournemouth's a dump...? Can you justify that?
For example Southampton is a dump because it has industrial areas right in the middle of town....
Not the only reason I don't much like Southampton and I would have to admit the shopping in Soton is a damn sight better than Bournemouth, but come on, Bournemouth a dump?

Those people who were wondering about IMAX release of Matrix:Revloutions don't need to wonder any more.
It's getting a simultaneous release with the standard cinema format on 5 November.
Link to BBC news item (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/film/3158232.stm)
And what's more, it is LITERALLY a simultaneous release. The showing times are timed so that ALL cinemas start showing it at the same time.
6.00am Los Angeles
11.00am New York
2.00pm London
3.00pm Paris
And what's the betting I get to see it 2-3 days earlier at the reel test screening at my local cinema? :)

yep, i live between soton and bournemouth so go to both regularly (put soton on my location as i work there). bournemouth is a **** hole, admittedly not as bad as boscombe but not far off. It used to be nice when the council actually cleaned the place, but now it's just a dump. Rubbish everywhere, public toilets in a state of disrepair, dirty streets and shopping centres. The park, its one redeeming feature, is full of rubbish and the beach is full of used needles and rubbish too.
The night clubs are just one big fight arena with the local skag hags screaming and shouting as their pimp gets arrested for the night outside. Walking between the cinemas and the car park above westover road is like entering beiruts happy hour, the stench of death and white lightning hanging in the air :)
When i was young bournemouth was a really nice clean place but it's just gone more and more downhill as everything that was tarted up in the 80's has been left to rot, does it have a labour/liberal council ?

Why Bournemouth is a craphole pt 1 (concise edition):
- Bournemouth is plagued with townies
- Lots of elderly
- Nasty entity in Bournemouth called 'The Toope'. Best avoided at all times unless you are a big fan of dirty holes.
- Bad pop bands at the BIC
- Not being able to find your bus at b'mouth square
- Too many gangs of grunting, insecure oaths in track- suit bottoms, trainers and designer labels who shout abusive, moronic comments at anyone who opts to dress differently.
- The imax cinema building
- Drugs
- Stupid Balloon in the central park
- Only 35 miles from Scumhampton.
- Closed in the winter
- Lots of elderly
- The lack of a decent shopping centre
- The abundance of designer labels.
- True blue Tory town. No soul or conscience.
- Little in the way of culture or intellectual pleasures - art gallery, museum, art centre etc.
- Lots of elderly
- No night buses after midnight only expensive taxis.
- Boscombe (West) is notorious for hard drugs, crime and prostitution.
- Overpriced beer in ****ty club/pubs.
- Not being able to walk through town in the summer.
- Man Utd Shirts (or are they all Arsenal ones now?)
- Lots of elderly
- Rotten over-priced food, no decent fish and chips.
- No parking
- All the night clubs close at 2am.
- Pay up to £10 for a crap night in a club that shuts at 1am.
- Headquarters of The Bognor Regis Elderly Fan Club. Est.1996
- The Train Station - falling to pieces.
- Nosey security cameras everywhere
- Lots of elderly
- B.I.C. and some buildings in the town
- The one way system around the town centre
- Lots of elderly

Lived in Bournemouth most of my life so might be a bit biased BUT....
Bournemouth was, once, a retirement town, that is true. It is just no longer the case. The Bournemouth / Poole area has around 23 secondary schools. It has a university, and has a huge number of bars and clubs, which are now mostly open till 4 in the morning.
The beach. Sand is cleaned by machine every night and by people every morning. Anr rubbish on the beach is a result of lazy gits dropping it rather than putting it in a bin. I must say I have never come across any needles on the beach.
Fighting. Never been involved in one or seen one happening, Townies are mostly too interested in keeping their designer labels clean, which they certainly didn't...
buy in Bournemouth, cos the shops are ****e on the whole, BUT has 2 branches of Game and some other place as (forgotten the name) but Part exes PC games.
If a balloon is good enough for Paris it is good enough for Bournemouth, stupid it maybe, popular it certainly is!
IMAX, terrible building... but the marketing, truly truly bad!
What the hell is "The Toope"
Boscombe, bloody awful place. Nuff said, but far enough away from the centre of town never to cross my mind.
Train station, a protected building I believe, you moan about a lack of museums and then want us to build a new train station! There is the Russel Cotes museum mind! But Bournemouth is a seaside resort, don't expect too many galleries and museums, and besides there is always plenty of art on show in Westover road, and in the park adjacent to the part (market kinda place for artists)
I'm bored now....
But Bournemouth is a great place to live, and judging by what I make a living doing a popular place to visit.

I have no idea what the "toope" is! I just did a google search for "bournemouth craphole" or something along those lines and cut and pasted the whole list to stir up some trouble ;)
Bugstomper
3rd October 2003, 17:29
well the needles on the beach were closer to the boscombe end than the bournemouth end, but the rubbish bit was right, we went down to see the end of season fireworks and the place was like a rubbish tip even before the hordes of people started turning up.
i liked the balloon though, not too expensive either which is surprising for bournemouth, get someone to fix the public lavs though if you work for the council in some capacity.
having said all that, i live in New Milton, which is even more of a ****hole so i guess you're lucky :)

I have to say I was rather shocked when you shaid Bournemouth was a crap hole.
Admittedly its not the most exciting place unless you are are into trendy wine bars and night clubs.... but crap hole?
Its waaaay better than most places Ive been to in the UK.
Bugstomper
5th October 2003, 08:59
well on a sliding scale i guess so, but as most places in the uk are now crap holes too it's hard to judge :)
