old school serial comms - help

situation: trying to connect a atari st to my pc to transfer files via a serial cable. not having much luck at present. any hints? atm i've got matching configs (baud, parity, stop ibts...) and using Xmodem/Ymodem but no transfers?

got it working now, but i think it's a plain serial one.

I/O access on the ST is very slow compared with the emulator.
