I think zero will be excelant and will give generals the depth it needed. Although im slighly consernd that one of the usa generals has the ability to biuld aurora alpha which drop feul air bombs this cant be right and if it is they cant be as good as current auroras or theyed be way too strong.

refer to here (http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19184) for other zero hour thread.

It has Gone Gold, and the release date is said to be next Sunday/Monday.

I'll be getting it for a) the new units, b) the enhanced skirmish AI (apparently it is going to be more fun having skirmishes against the CPU and they won't fall over on base building or long term strategy).

The generals differences will probably mean I'll get hammered worse than usual. I don't think I'll be wanting to pick the american general who is all air force and no tanks :(

Been playing on Zero Hour for last couple of hours, quite impressed so far.. I do so like the american air force general :D

Yes, you can buy your workers shoes,

Yes, there is an 'upgrade' for america called "the mother of all bombs",

Yes, it does still seem balanced :)

Baz

To be honest, when I was building the planes I did not notice they were called anything other than Aurora's. I'll fire it up now and check for ya

Ok it's the superweapon USA general that has the alphas. The fuel air bomb is nowhere near as effective as the level 5 promotion. It took two shots to kill a refinery. Big explosion though, more area effect than standard aurora, guess that's the major diff.

Badcrumble

i was hopeing u would say that, as fuel airs so regulaly available would ruin the game 4 planes could kill a hole base ffs.

it looks really good, gonna get it when i can, but, and don't flame me for this, does anyone else think this is what generals should have been when it first came out?
just my opinion...

I couldnt agree more, i think this is the most needed update to any game ive had before, generals is clearly a great game we wouldnt all play it so much if it wasnt but it lacked any real depth and is just starting to get boring, EA's timeing couldnt be better.

I'll be getting it, havn't got a new game/mod since i17

Well a weekend of the *cough* demo has been well spent. I'll be buying this come Friday as it really does make Generals the way it "should have been".

The comedy videos are back, the missions are better and there's a sweet challenge mode that's part puzzle part RTS.

Clearly with our "early practice hax" me and Psym will own you all at Stratlan ;)

One worrying thing Badcrumble, you DO NOT want to wait for your opponent to attack any more. Particularly the US but GLA and China as well now have sufficient direct damage abilities at level 5 to flatten large chunks of the enemy base.

Although, big-up to the spectre gunship for USA.

New maps all look good, and new basic units nicely flesh out the old to make the sides more balanced (e.g. you get ECM tanks for china now that mean missiles can misfire. put a few near your overlords to keep em healthy).

Dammit Sierra, release the game already so I can give you my money...

The best thing without doubt is the easiest addition they made. It's a little check box on the create game screen with "Limit Superweapons" written next to it - 1 per player.

Blood Sport

That is what i call good idea

Sooooo many new tactics to play with :)

Fear the secret tunnel + 8 x bomb-truck attack, instant base clearance.

Blood Sport
22nd September 2003, 13:29
That sounds very nasty

if you go to the official site you can view some of the game, hell yeah i'm up for some of that!

Although this is inevitably a good release, what else is being released next Monday as well?

A long awaited release from Valve perhaps?

Zero Hour is enthralling me. I am deeply looking forward to 'Find the Base' when someone picks the Stealth GLA general :)

Zakalwe
23rd September 2003, 12:55
Had that with NJ the other night, had to light him up with detectors to sniff out the final few buildings.

andyf

I think the tactic works great against a) computer players, b) newbie players (like me) where you build stealthed tunnels in a sort of semi circle around the enemy base, assuming you can map it out ok, then a stealth barracks or so hopefully in a shrouded area of the map, and randomly throw in some terrorists at them, or put some terrorists on bikes and charge them :D

I think more than anything this game should be more interesting and amusing to watch as a spectator. King raptors flying around zapping missiles whilst trying to deliver their payload is a nice visual

Badcrumble

omfg a steath gla general how much is steathed, please tell me atleast the workers are visable.

Tunnels will fire on things nearby which lights them up, so it's not as if they are that tricky to find if they're near your base.

Then again andy, you are the only person I know who seems to prefer to spectate in generals games than play in them ;)

Finaly!

I have this game installed, I will have to play a couple missions 2night and give it my views. :)

Cant wait. Dammit, cmon 6pm.

i have alos been playing the , er, demo

the fact every single GLA unit gets mods from picking up wreckage now is imo, a vital move. Modded scuds have scary scary range (over 1 full screen away), and modded toxic tracors are just fun :) oh and watch out for the modded scorpion - dual rockets :)

I started to play this a little bit last night,

Im gonna work my way through all the missions to learn all the new bits. Ive stared the USA mission, gotta say im fairly impressed so far, although it should be more interesting as i get futher into the game.
