Hey there...

I'm the lead programmer for http://www.ProjectorGames.com - ProjectorGames are a series of simple (and not-so simple) games, designed for 2-256 players, running on 1-3 projectors.

We're basically wondering if you'd be interested in having us along at your next LAN - the PG rig has support for about 60-odd people right now...

The games we currently have are:

SkyKids

http://hosted.barrysworld.net/projectorgames/screenshots/SkyKids_Screen.jpg

1-64 players in a horizontally scrolling fly-'em-up.

Escape The Planet

http://hosted.barrysworld.net/projectorgames/screenshots/ETP_Screen.jpg

8 player update of the classic JetPac.

MegaSprint

http://hosted.barrysworld.net/projectorgames/screenshots/MegaSprint_Screen.jpg

64 player racing game, with full 4 point physics engine

TeamCommando

http://hosted.barrysworld.net/projectorgames/screenshots/TeamCommando_Screen.jpg

128 player Capture The Flag madness.

BomberMatch

http://hosted.barrysworld.net/projectorgames/screenshots/BomberMatch_Screen.jpg

A 256 player update of everyone's favourite party game.

Urban Mechanised Combat

http://hosted.barrysworld.net/projectorgames/screenshots/UMC_Screen.jpg

BattleField meets ProjectorGames in this 240 player tank-based area control game, with up to 3 people per tank.

Pirates

http://hosted.barrysworld.net/projectorgames/screenshots/Pirate_Screen.jpg

Team up with a friend, and take on the rest of the seven seas in this game packed full of Pirate-y goodness.

Balloon Cats

http://www.sawkins.com/pg/ballooncats_mockup.png

An update of the classic NES game Balloon Fight.

We should also have the first versions of Zombie City, Destruction Derby, BishiBashi Challege and our triple projector version of Scorched Earth.

If you've got any questions, ask 'em below, check our FAQ (http://hosted.barrysworld.net/projectorgames/modules.php?name=FAQ) or drop into #projectorgames on QuakeNet.

If you're interested in having us along, let your voice be heard here!
If you've seen us at any of the previous LANs you've been to, then add your feedback below!

Hope to see you all there,

DjArcas

^^^ This thread was posted to gauge interest. To be perfectly honest, and no offence to Arcas here, but i'm not sure it's something FBL really needs, as there is already enough competition for the bigscreen and enough noise! (This wont be as much of an issue at 7, as i wont be using the main PA, however its still sommat to consider).

However, as he came to me, I asked him to post this thread to see what everyone else thought.

Post your opinions here :)

Giles.

I have had ProjectorGames at the LAN party I run, and i have seen them at other LANs, It has always been a huge success. What have you got to lose? Just give them an hour or two on one of your projectors and see what you think? They are offering you a service..For FREE!

Lol that's funny, lol, that's a good idea, lol that's a terrible idea...?

BomberMan rocks, and we currently hold the world record for the largest game of it. (22 players)

I have been to many lans with these dudes and i think you will like the games alot. For a free service i think they deserve a chance to show you what they can do, even if its only 2 hours. They are great fun and a good asset to any lan party.

-Thanx Mark H.

Giles... oh poor poor Giles. May I present to you DjArcas... co-organiser of FlashLAN (sadly no longer operating), and the man who is most directly responsible for the DDR explosion at LAN parties.

I say a big definite YES!

Hi, I'm Si from ProjectorGames, so my 'vote' doesn't really count. I just wanted to say that most people think ProjectorGames is pretty cool when they first hear about it and think of the possibilities. When they actualy *see* it. ..they love it :)

There's nothing to lose by telling them to come along for a couple of hours. From what I know they've always had great success and gathered a fairly big crowd. It's always fun to play games up on a big screen with loads of players.

We were talking about using them for Dreamlan But was too close to the event. I think they spoke with someone at I17 but also I think it was too close to the event.

Looks kinda fun But I was worried about it taking over the event too much and people getting a bit fed up with the numbers not playing other games ?.... I think for a friday night could be kewl.

If you take them up on it Id be interested to see what happens..

Cheers and good luck projector peeps this is really a new idea, keep it going guys.........

Well, people are on USB gamepads/sticks. The Xbox ones are the nicest, they have a nice ten foot cable. We tend to position the main hubs as far apart as we can... squeezed 25 people round it easily before (or limit has always been people or controllers, so far!)

You're worried about it being too good? Cheers! *chuffed*

256 player bomberman would be a tad difficult at a 50 person lan... :)

DjArcas
22nd September 2003, 10:12
But the PG rig can easily cope with 50 player bomberman, skykids, commando, zombies, tank combat, balloon cats, bishibashi challenge... :-)

Why not? I mean at least give it a test Giles :) If it's ****.. then we dont play it simple, but if we dont play it for the simple fact it might not be good.. then what a waste! Everything ahs to start somewhere.. :)

DjArcas
15th October 2003, 07:32
Not for this coming LAN, we're already booked up, hehe. I'm sure that we'll be along to the next one tho. Keep an eye on our webpage for news about other LANs we're at... our calendar is beginning to look distinctly busy :)

how can you go to lans free of charge? how do you afford it? are you sponsored?

DjArcas
15th October 2003, 10:47
We will be charging LANs sooner or later, to cover the cost of travel, accomodation, new pads, hardware, etc. At the moment we're looking to raise our profile amongst the LAN community, so we're doing it gratis.

As the old saying goes - 'The first one is always free'
