Email from GAME:

As you may already be aware, the UK release date for 'Half Life 2' has changed to Aug-03.

Please don't worry, your order is still 'live' and will be despatched to you on the day prior to the revised release date, via your chosen method of shipping, unless you advise us to the contrary.

Hmmm, i wouldn't belive that personally, it seems like they are trying to stir up a bit of publicity and a few extra pre-orders.

I can't rememebr the last time a game's release date was brought forward....

also, 3 weeks away, it would have been a bigger announcement if they have brought it that close, they need to bring their hype machine up to full speed. And finally, August the 3rd? that's a sunday, games are normally brought out on fridays.... and every once in a while a game is released mid-week, but never on a weekend :E

if i'm wrong i'll buy you a pint at i17 :)

By August-03 I assume they mean in August 2003 as opposed to the third of August.

So they could have a little more time than 3 weeks.

hmmm, still a months difference (assuming it is at the end of august, since the origional date was the end of september), dunno seems so strange that the release date they origionally gave was an over estimation.....

i'll still pesamistic anyway :p:

which is a little odd for a game that's supposed to be released next month....

But the Game site now says: Preorder - 30-Sep-2003

Is that when they stop accepting pre-orders or it's release date?

I wouldnt believe game / Play.com or anyone other than the publishers. Im sure when the game "goes gold" there will be an announcement, usually the game will follow 2 to 3 weeks after that.

Wait for the developers to announce gold status then get excited :D

I wouldn't get excited if they gave it to me.
Not on my list of games to buy and probably will only be in March 2004 when it goes on Xbox, and then only if I get it cheap.

Doom 3 is where it's at.

/me checks Dwarf_Pr0n's temperature...

yep, he's ill

and as for this release date being moved up?

Bull**** I say... it would be all over the news sites, not on some retailers monthly email...
that and how would the UK release date be pushed forward when Valve are aiming for a worldwide release on the 30th...

lies... ALL LIES!!!

Doom 3 is where it's at.

"I have played neither game X nor game y, I have seen screenshots, movies and read stuff. X will be better than Y. Everyone who disagrees with me is wrong."

It's amazing how much internet time is wated by people giving opinions on stuff that hasn't been released, and sometimes never does get released. Anyone remember the furor over Prey, and people going on about how it would "0wn Q3"?

Based on the e3footage and my experience with the leaked Doom3 demo (admittedly early code) I'm more excited by Half-life 2 than Doom3, although I've completed every id game released so I'll probably end up getting Doom3 as well. (Half-life is on pre-order :) )

When I've played both I'll let you know which one I prefer. Although I'll try and avoid assuming everyones preferences must align with my own...

Zak you know you can't AVOID it. It's the way the internet works :) Your opinion is greater than everyone else's ;)

Unlucky, but dont be suprised or upset. You will get the game at the same time as everybody else (unless there is a post strike around that time of year).

Tbh, the retailers are all the same, if their release dates were accurate, we'd all be playing doom 3 now.. (originally planned for release early June). :p:

I like Valve's approach to releasing games. Don't release any info until you're sure you'll meet the release date. They don't need to hype it... the game will speak for itself.

They also stop accepting pre-orders when they have met their quota.

I have a feeling that you'll be able to download hl2 using Steam a week before it hits the shops.

Also, anyone saying they "Aren't bothered about hl2" is attention seeking tbh :D

Not necessarily. You could genuinely not care...

a) it's public relations, it's not illegal to quote an earlier release date, for it to be wrong, it's an estimate. Since people can just cancel there pre-orders.

b) They'll get more customers because of it, they'll compare it to most gaming sites and realise game get it 2 months earlier than the rest ;) Or so they say.

.........I have a feeling you can download this from IRC well before it hits the shops :) Then nip into your local Tesco Superstore, isle 2 PC games, and note the serial number for online gameplay, as the lamers always leave the manuals inside the cdcase on the shelves in my local store!

Aye I reckon its still set for 30th September. Just do a google search for "Half Life 2 Release Date" and you see that every site says the 30th Sept non say August
