strange thing, sometimes when i start it up, it makes a very loud noise, sound like something is caught in the fan.

however if i have it tilted to one side, its ok, do i have to send it off to fix this? or is it worth just fixing it myself?

Well you really have two options to take here, but first you must ask yourself do I care about the warranty? I believe once you open the beast up you loose your warranty (like with most eletrical products).

If doesn't sound like a big fault, it could be as you said something caught on the fan or something is just loose and needs to be screwed down. If you do care about your warranty either get a qualified technician to look at it, or as you said send it away and hopefully they shall fix it.

If you do choose to follow the DIY route, remember if you f*ck it up then you will not be able to claim on the insurance or warranty.

I say, call Microsoft get em to pick it up and get it fixed.
Apparently their pick up, fix and turn around service is quite rapid.
It'd be better to get professionals to do it and keep warranty than attempt it yourself and end up with no warranty especially if it's not the fan causing it.

when i droped my ps2, and it stoped working, i didnt think twice about taking the diy route!

i took it apart, and fixed the cd drive in no time.

but im more woried about the xbox, with the hdd en stuff.

ill either live with it, or get it done by pro.

how long is the warentee on the xbox?
