This summer’s biggest LAN is almost upon us! The Preparations are well underway here at Newbury Racecourse; the network is being built, the tables are out and the staff are working late into the night setting up the remaining parts of the infrastructure. In fact the only thing missing is you!
i-Series events are always packed full of things going on and i25 is no different.
For those arriving on Thursday night for our Early Arrival Service the fun starts right away whilst you help us “test” the network and get yourself all settled in ready for a 9am start the following morning. For the majority of people things don’t kick off until the Friday but believe me – they really kick off! Especially with the staff versus delegates football which is on the Friday afternoon at 4pm. Just because it’s the first night doesn’t mean that you can take it easy – big games of Battlefield 2 and Aliens vs Predator 2 are scheduled to start around 7pm.
Saturday is a busy day for you with it being Tournament Day, you’ll be battling it out with the best of the rest whilst you strive to win the coveted #1 title. Several tournaments have cash prizes over the weekend – CS 1.6/Source, CoD to name but a few, with the Battlefield 2 Cup taking the limelight at i25 as clans clash for a £1,000 first prize.
If you don’t fancy joining in the tournaments you can try some of the organised classic games we’re running throughout the day, with games such as MarioKart, Quakeworld, Quake 2 and RTCW: Enemy Territory you have no excuse to be sitting browsing the web!
Come evening the very popular Pub Quiz (bring a chair) will be in full swing – just think of it as real life TriviaBot but this time you can't use Google! After this you’ll get another chance to de-throne the staff at their own game in the legendary Boat Race. Will the customers achieve the impossible and beat the staff team? For some reason I have some sort of phrase running through my head... something about Hell freezing over? Anyway regardless of what happens in the Boat Race you’ll have another chance to pit your skills against the best the staff can muster in the staff vs delegates DDR.
If you get any sleep at all you’ll wake up to Big Game, Big Screen Sunday. So called because you can either join the big games organised (which include Joint Ops, large-scale CS and Savage) or you can spend the day in the bar in front of the Big Screen. The finals this event all come with commentary and the winners presentations coming right after the final has finished – expect more from the finals at i25.
The action doesn’t stop just because it’s the last day – more classic games are scheduled, including Quake III and C&C: Renegade. Don’t forget the ever popular raffle to which everyone at the event has a chance of winning because you all get a free ticket! Of course if you want to increase your chance of winning the great (and this time they are particularly great) prizes then you can spend as much as you want buying extra tickets – we take switch and student loan cheques.
If you want to know in full detail what's on when then check out the full schedule
So you really have no excuse not to come down and be a part of the buzz – over 700 people are coming making it the biggest LAN in the UK this summer. Miss it and you’ll definitely miss out! However if you really can’t make it then you can stay in touch as we’ll be bringing you i-Live again – i25 as it happens, straight to your desktop. Keep an eye out on the news for the latest Bytes and stay connected.
For those who are coming we hope you’ve got your bags packed and are too excited to sleep, but just in case you forgot something have a look at our checklist to remind yourself of those easy-to-forget items.
