lads, i've just reinstalled my freelancer after formatting. Unfortunately i didnt record my account number :( I formatted cos i was going from a Nvidia GF 3 to an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro.

I've heard some mumbles about problems with the ATI series and freelancer, someone said something about having to turn in-game hardware accelerator on somehow, anyone got any ideas?

If anyone has a 9700 Pro have you had any problems? My menu's are really jumpy

Wether its of any use i dont know - but my dads 9500pro ran very glitchy with freelancer (yes, he is a big fan too) and this was due to the Manufacterers own drivers being crap - latest catalyst drivers effectively sorted the problem out sweet.

Hope thats helpful

well i had the latest drivers for everything I spoke to a mate of mine and he suggested that lowering the hardware acceleration one notch would work, the last notch only effects mouse acceleration anyway so i did this and it works just fine now :)

hmmm... i use a 9500pro and i have never had a problem with i r currently using the new cat 3.4's and i run the game with 4xAA and 16xAF and there aint a glitch in sight a m8 of mine has a 9700pro which gave him an error message along the lines "freelancer failed to detect a video card" or sommat like that but it still ran at 100% hardware speed

so i dunne know.... might be a hardware glitch somewhere other than your GFX or maybe a driver problem... u tried removing them and re-installing???

The menu jumping thing is a driver bug, can be fixed by lowering acceleration by one notch as mentioned above. Otherwise version 3.2 and 3.4 of the catalyst drivers fix the bug. Personallu I'm using 3.4 and they seem to work with everything.

For a more detailed explanation of how best to use your card go to www.overclockers.co.uk and click on forums. In the graphics cards forums is a lengthy post with all the information and links you should ever need for the 9700, it's updated often as well.

FL was problem free as far as the GFX was concerned. I have a 8500 on 2.5's at the time. Only prob I had was with the sound that was sorted after a trip to the readme :D

Have to remember... the 9700 and 9800 series have drivers specifically tweaked with relatively new enhancement methods, whch supposedly are being incorporated into the new catalyst drivers (ati had to test thier compatibility 1st) this game however was probably finished being written way b4 then - so one or two probs may possibly be caused thru that.

In fact for those of you that have bought the standard-issue 9500 with 128mb mem, that card is in fact a 9700 with 4 of its pipelines deactivated, so effectively you can get software to open up these pipelines and make your card into a 9700 at half the cost. The specs for this card tho is specific - the memory chips on this card are laid out in an "L" format next to the gpu - i'll post up the tweak-site addy if u want too.
