Xbox Live Subscription

When you buy an xbox live starter kit. I assume your years subscription doesn't start ticking away from the date it was purchased but from when you actually signed up online - is that right?

Yes it is true, the Xbox has an anti tamper device on board, which if finds the Xbox has been tampered, does not allow the Xbox to go on Xbox live. The same happens with non Microsoft dash board updates.

Best idea is too either get one of the more expensive chips with an on / off button. Turn it off before you go on line and your fine. Supposibly they are developing a chip to get around it or something. My 2pence, just leave your Xbox alone :D

I'm getting mine chipped with a switch chip, the way it works is if you turn your xbox on using the eject button it loads the default M$ dashboard and the xbox is none the wiser and you can use xbox live till your heart is content.

But if u use the power button it loads up with the chip and you can use another dash which allows you to play play divx movies and backed-up games etc...

Someone mentioned to me thought that M$ are releasing new vewsion of live software which will scan for other dashboards on your xbox hdd, and lock you out of live if it finds any...

well yes the subscription only starts once u register it on ur Xbox.

ive put a little sticker over where it says xbox, so it now says "stead box"

Could be pushing it.
Microsoft might detect an unofficial mod to the console, you know what Microsoft are like :)
