View Full Version : Custom Skins/Sounds

I've found a few problems recently with ppl using custom sounds in public and match's, some of these sounds give a massive advantage over other players.

Some of these sounds are amplified so that you can hear footsteps/bullet hits/defuse from miles away.

Now it doesn't sound like these sounds can affect CS that much but they can, as it allows players using some of these sounds to be able to pin point other players on the map where with default they would have no chance of doing so.

Also a major problem is amplified hits and pain sound, so for example someone is behind a box, a player using this sound runs along firing randomly into walls and box's would here the amplified sound when he hits someone then would pin point him and kill him.

I've found a server add in that stops the vast majority of these custom sounds (also stops ppl using custom player models, blood packs and weapon models, if so wanted)

Something like this would be an added bonus to anyone using WWCL on their server, also handy in the MPUK CS tourney I would guess. It takes only a few minutes to install and will block anyone with custom sounds/skins (depending how its configured) from joining that server.

Clan #Harmless currently have this installed on their server (195.20.108.51:27030)

The URL is http://www.tng-clan.de/tools.php?NSID=ed61494b24dfd09980c46e524b748166

The above site is in German, however we have converted the readme to English, the English readme and download itself is available from Moo in #Harmless on Qnet or via the URL above.

Any comments ?

Yes the mention of your clan #Harmless sounds very interesting....i shall be checking out #HARMLESS shortly

whats that room again? oh its #HARMLESS :D

sounds good - theres also the sound hack s_occfactor which means u can hear through anything like its air..instead of cs dampening the sound for epople behind walls

If it doesnt cause any lag then i reckon its a must

No it doesnt cause any lag, as the checks are made while you are joining the server.

just for you Rob.... #Harmless.

I doubt this will be used for i16 at this stage. It looks like its still beta too, and with it not being very well known, we don't know how it would fare on the network.

Yes it is a new plug in, I have only seen two servers with it on atm. It would not fare any different on a network then it does on the internet as it checks user sound files before they connect to the server thus causing no lag.

I think it should.. anything to stop people gaining any unfair advantages should be used :) and the fact that this causes no performance issues then its a must :) imho ;)

im a user of custom sounds, but i only use custom weapons sounds, to me all of these have sounded the same, i hav used custom sounds such as pain sounds, but it does make it unfair so i turned it off ( also having a grown man scream in pain when hes lost 1hp is just **** )
