Hello all, i just got back on the forums after a few months of not bothering, for some reason :) just thought i would start a little debate about something i been wondering about..
ok so all these adverts on TV for the video phones, has anyone actually got a video phone? or know someone with one?
i for one havent seen anyone with one out anywhere, so why will people buy them when no-one else has them, and they can only be used to people that have them.
ok so u might get the odd group of people who decide to buy one each or something so they can video message each other.
but really, whats the point in them? whats wrong with just talking? and will it be worth me buying one some time in the future?

u mean the video mobile phones, the 3G ones?
If so, then i ain't seen any, but... when the picture phones came out i didn't know anyone with one, but now i know loads of people who've got em.
So i rekon give it time.
If your talking bout the video phones as in land lines then well i ain't seen anyone with one of them :]

There are LOTS of problems with this..
The phones may be able to support the streaming data etc, But the networks are REALLY Struggling.
Interesting fact for you, You know those little mobile phone towers you see, Well each transmitter is only capable of sustaining 64 calls (I think)
So, if if you have one of those phones, with 2 lines.. that then halves to 32 phones per transmitter (At any one time)
Now, think of 3g.. I actualy cant remember how many data channels it uses (forgot tbh) but im gonna make a guess between 5-8.
Do the math, how many phones can the network support in 1 area etc. Not all networks support 3g (or didnt at the time of me looking into it)
Basicly the phone has the potential to be very good, but the availability of the networks are a letdown.

Er. doesnt 3G use different transmitters / frequencies etc. The two just share antennaes. They are a completely different system to the GSM phones we are used to.

Yes, it is a totally new system from 2G; but Noodleman is right in saying that the bandwidth requirements of 3G phones is a LOT higher than 2G. The number of antenna's required to support them is a lot more than what is currently needed.
