View Full Version : Enter the matrix
thanks to the friendly people at gameplay i recieved my copy of Enter the Matrix this morning. i havnt stopped playing it since (cept to write this thread). all the matrix moves are in there plus a TON more. the first time you bend a guard over backwards and shoot him the chest u cant help but grin with glee. wall running , then jumping off the wall and round house kicking a guard mid air is another pleasure, or taking on a huddle of guards, and kicking one into the rest of them, knocking them all over. there are just SO MANY good moments in the game that you forget its scripted, because the action, which is what the game is all about is all up to you. you can snipe in 1st person view, use a combo of guns and fists, or just run in with "focus" (matrix powers) on and beat the hell out of every1. ive been playing for over 3 hours and its STILL teaching me new tricks i can use against bad guys (such as disarming, very useful against groups of special ops. and the fact the game is MASSIVE (4.8 gig min unstall  ) just shows how long the game will last. right im off to play some more.
now go buy this game

although i have many many gigs of space and i appreciate that bigger hard drives are cheaper now, i don't think that really makes up for a 4.8gb install :O

yup, I also got it today, and have to say its quite good - few niggles here and there(full shadows half way up wall, camera all over the place sometimes), but the combat is very good
as expected, the driving part is just like turd warmed up, but that plays a small part in the game, so I'll forgive them for that
all in all, looks like shiny have triumphed
ps, expect my review soon on my website - more details to follow
driving is indeed poo
the 3rd person bits are absolutly amazing tbh. i havnt had a prob with camera (cept in VERT CLOSE ares (air port tower, sewers), and you get to have a fight with trinity  :D. ive also had some sound issues, with real tyime cut scenes being totally silent, and just crap sound here and there (the freeway level). and there are even vampires init  have to go see the movie to understand why they're there. but combat, esesh hand to hand is immense. you will have wasted this game if you just shoot stuff, get in close and person and watch as your character nicks the nmes gun and hits them with is, then throws another one over thier shoulder and shoots them while they are still flying. AMAZING. also longer hand to hand fights go into "beat em up" cam mode, with the camera on the side and the 2 combatants in nice easy to see view :D
needs sound patch
need driving bits sorting (like having the comp driving skills set to higher than retard)

just got this today on my xbox! the control pad makes it much easier to string together combos and OMG its just so OMG! me thinks i wont be going to sleep tonoght! the only thing that gets me is that the fbi geezars are just so ****ing hard! you really cant do nething to them except try and kick them from behind!
oh well maybe ill get some more skills tonight!
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
wtf? are you playing on hard?
no one is too challenging to kill
just disarm them then own them
PC VERSION NEEDS SOUND PATCH AND THEY DONT HAVE TECH SUPPORT COS ITS NOT OFFICALLY RELEASED YET ARSE

i mean the agents like the other dudes that can do all the funky ****! like bullet time and stuff! there well ard (like the dog) :D
only met one agent and i just ran away. you cant beat them anyway (cos your not neo see?)
and i whooped trinity, that the only other powered person ive met. are you playing thru as ghost or niobe?.
i wont play it again till the sound gets sorted. im on the nuclear power plant and the echos that are created actually deafened me, they were so loud. i had to mute the game because the echos just drowned everything out. same on the freeway driving level, sooo much static nose and couldnt hear jack ****.
the fact that on the PC hacking bit there is a "vibration option" obviously shows this was a hasty console port for PC. although the combat is stupidly cool, till these unforgivable bugs get fixed this game will sit ontop of my rig unplayed :(

there were rumours that it was meant to be 6 disks, and the cases can hold 3 disks each, so I wonder what changed last minute....
but its still fun, altho I do get the odd sound prob, its nothing like the probs that Baz is having!!

Well I hope everybody goes buys the game, apparently this is make or break for Shiny, if it dont do well that will be another superb developer gone :(
Remember, Shiny brought us ORIGINAL classics like Sacrifice, which didnt do well becuase no-one seems to want to play original games nowadays.

Bah! My PC crashes when I'm installing the damn thing. Somewhere into CD 2 it just stops. The mouse cursor still moves round the screen, but nothing else responds and I have to reboot from the switch.
I'll try it on my laptop (which doesn't meet the minimum spec because of its 5400 RPM hard disk) and if it isn't playable because of loading times I'll be taking it back.
AND, Game screwed me over. Their "Reward" price of £34.99 is the same price everywhere else (highstreet), except Game won't knock 10% off for students because its already been reduced. It's like they don't want me to buy games from them or something!

It's not £34.99 everywhere, the rrp is actually £39.99, (PC World,, Amazon etc all stated this price when I looked last week) which is a lot of money for a pc game, even if it is 4 cds ....
I found the best place was online, www.gameplay.co.uk, where I bought it for £27.99, v. cheap p&p and almost next day delivery.
Now if only I didn't have to work, I could spend all day playing it ...
RocketKnight

Yeah but since when do high street stores sell brand new releases at the RRP? 9 times out of 10 they ALL knock £5 off. That's what annoys me, "Reward" prices in Game are rarely cheaper, its no real reward. I can get it cheaper in the shop next door to Game, and I made sure to tell the manager that when I realised. He didn't seem to care, lol.
Also, I know its much cheaper online, I was going to get it from play.com but I'm bored having finished college and wanted to play it right away. :D
And still no joy getting the installer to work over here. :(

LOL.. Install problems, lets state the obvious..
1. Enough HDD space to install the game?
2. Enough HDD space on your windows partition (C Drive) to install the game?
Im guessing the install program unpacks files to your temp. directory before copying them to your install directory.
GL (soz for stating the obvious :) )

Got 7Gb free space to install on my D partition, and enough space on my C: partition for anywhere up to 5Gb of temporary files. Shouldn't be a problem as far as I can see, it's a 4.3Gb installation.

steps for a better lobby scene (Got It):
1: get winamp
2: get RM-X component/plugin and set it to play on a key combo
3: get Spybreak by the propellorheads and enqueue it
4: start enter the matrix, kill their music, and get to the bit where the P.O. doors lock down
5: hit your key combo for play
6: enjoy

i've got it and i'm playing it, the controls feel a bit clumsy sometimes. V good game though!
complete it and then go hacking...OMG SWORD SAMURAI OWNAGE WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE:D :D :D :D :D :D
Slander!
you should actually be shot.
The game is absoloutley brilliant the combat sequences are so invovative, the true genious is they are easy to control, but there is also some skill added. The game plays brilliantly. The only strop i had was that the game was HOBVIOSULY designed for console.
oh need i mention how much fun u can have pretending to be a leet hax0r. (this must be done after a period of no sleep for a couple of days for full effect).

its a shame u canneh just always walk around with the sword, would be cool to just have it as a weapon at all times :D
And regardless of how many times u stab it into the heart of an agent he gets up.
Although i know agents can only be killed by neo, anyone can still kill the body that their in at that time, they just come back into another. So, why doesn't the god dam sword do somint :P

mebbe I just expected a little too much, but I felt the game did fall apart slightly towards the end... The hovercraft bit sucked so hard!
That said, ive only finished it with Niobe... Will start Ghost's bit later today...
and yus, im also having the hella™-annoying cutscene problems... either the sound just doesn't play or is just totally out of sync with the rest of the action... ended up having to put subs on just to make it out (making it look like your average badly dubbed jap flick)...

Pros:
- Lovely fighting.
- Generally nice looking.
- Lovely fighting.
- Extra non-film FMV.
- ...Lovely fighting.
- The 'hacking' bit, good for five minute's amusement.
Cons:
- Huge size for what it is. (Three to four hours of play, per character.)
- Sound issues on some levels. (Freeway car chase, one power plant area, Skyscraper.)
- Niobe is 'the best driver in the Matrix'. Which leads to you having to restart all the levels where she's driving five times because the dozy tart's got stuck against a wall again.
- Blatant lack of smoothness when aiming in the aforementioned driving sections.
- Attempting to use focus with a sniper rifle. Ick.
- Texturing issues (Niobe's coat, sky on some levels.)
- Uninspired, repetitive design for most maps.

In fact, the only reason the game's still on my hard drive is because the hand to hand system works so nicely. It's got little replay value past that.
As to just about everything else, though, it's so blatantly a rushed console port it makes me want to chew through a power cord in annoyance. The graphics aren't anything really to write home about, regardless of the hype it's gotten in magazines and newspapers.
Just seems to me to be Max Payne with a movie tag tied to it, and then a vastly improved 'kung-fu mod' nailed in place.
