Does anyone know if there have been any improvements on multiplayer mobile gaming? I have a Nokia 6310 and was a little dissappointed that its not possible to play tennis over IR!

Surely the major manufacturers aint going to overlook demand for such features, especially with advent of bluetooth! Also what about games utilising SMS messaging? Turn based gameplay - could be fun! Chess for example!

Basically any info much appreciated as would liek decent gaming capability on my next phone as spend fair amount of time travelling!

Cheers!

Come on Jack! Use the internet to your advantage!
Check out:
www.google.com

Search for:
mobile games console
gameboy
N-Gage
B'ngo
Helix
Sony Ericsson P800

There's no end of phones out there that offer good games, multiplayer, downloadable etc etc eg Doom on the Sony Ericsson P800 ;)

The Sony-Ericsson P800 is just pure, unrefined, unadultated SEX. :)
The version of chess that comes with it can be played against the phone, or via SMS with someone else. I'm not sure about Bluetooth or IR linking, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are games on the way that take advantage of them.

The games I've installed so far include AceTris, GemDropX, Jworm, LoPan and Mobile Othello. There are literally dozens out there on the web for free, and even more that charge a small fee. The Stunt Car game that comes on the CD with the phone is a trip down memory lane... it's based on Stunt Car Racer for the Commodore Amiga back in the early 90's.

Thanks for this info!

P800 looks very sweet but is expensive at £300+!! Any ideas on prices for the Nokia N-Gage?? Can find no useful info about it! If its around the £300 range then forget it - P800 wins!

soniasausage, I haven't installed Doom yet, for the simple reason that I don't have the WAD files from the original game. As soon as I get my hands on them, I will be installing it.

As for size, I think it is absolutely the right size. Not so small that you could lose it down your butt crack, and not so big that you feel you have a brick in your pocket. Yes it is wider than most phones on the market today, but I don't see it as a phone with PDA functions bolted on. I see it as a PDA with a phone bolted on. I tried to get one on contract but none of the major networks would have me (dodgy credit history) so I got one sim-free on eBay. They normally go for £500 like that, but I picked one up for £350. For that price you get:

Phone
Camera
Internet access (GPRS or WAP, your choice)
Video player (mpeg4)
audio player (wav, mp3, midi, amr, au)
jotter, calculator, task list, calendar and other organiser functions.
USB docking cradle
PC software on CD.
4 styluses (styli ?)

You also have the facility to download and install programs written in Java, C++ and now VB. I have yet to read about another smartphone that has as much of a programming community going for it.

Not sure if you already know this but price for the N-Gage has been announced - will be approx £180! I'm pretty sure some operators will reduce the price so hopefully we may see it on the shelves for about £100!!
