View Full Version : Rushes, tactics and races

First of all races do have to be discussed: China (general all round), America (intelligence, airforce), GLA (get it fast get it fooking cheap). I personally at the moment play USA just because their defense can defend against tanks better than anyone elses. Colonel Burtie rocks and always will do. China have the joy of THE tank. Along with this Black Lotus and hackers! hackers will win a game in a late stage of the game. Lotus is more deadly than lotus IMHO capture a building in 7 seconds rather than destroy it in maybe 20  GLA very cheap vey quick but maybe very weak??? One battlemaster can destroy 2 scropions (unmodded scorpions). GLA do have the most upgrade possibilities (i think im right) and when the upgrades do come in they are very good. General defence is poor though.
So which race and why?
Rushes are a funny thing for me. I have tried lots and to little avail. Fill a chinook with couple of inf and 3 rocket defenders.... rocket buggy rushes... humvee rushes.... what have you tried do they work? Klicko the other day (although not a rush) drop 5 men behind my base and then came and captured my base while i was about to attack gave up instantly... it was pure lose!
Klicko and myself also have very verying tactics. He goes straight away for resources, i set up defence and try to piss him off a biut by destroying his supply centre or asuch. I know resources are the stuff win is made of but it just doesnt work for me.... again suggestions and build lists appreciated.
My typical build list is:
Power plant->2nd dozer->Barracks->Supply centre->patriot then flashbangs and few inf and rocket defenders...
then wait for war factory then second patriot then go from there with 2nd chinook...
Someone assess me please :P: i am quite good at the game and know most aspects and tactics but i dont know what the community around me do during game. So please add away thoughts and comments

Tactic used by myself and Mr Kipling at the last DreamLAN:
Mr Kipling defended us both while I went straight for Nukes/Particle Cannon/SCUD Missiles and keps building them and Power stations.
This was REALLY effective but would probably work better with the nukes because of the lower recharge time. If the other player is USA, then they can keep "scanning" the map.

Although I must add that we spent more time finding out what words were filtered in the lobby than playing the game :D

Why patriots so early in the game?
Also, why flashbangs (a force multiplier) *before* you have a force to multiply...

very true but infantry early on tends to be a bitch
what would u suggest instead of patriot then?

To defend against armour I would suggest rocket troops (laserlock is a killer and easier to Micro Manage in the early game) - if the enemy has multiple flame or rapid fire tanks/hummvees then slap your troops in a building.
Building static defences so early in the game, particularly anti armour ones is a bit wasteful.

That's righ afty put your infatry in a building when attacked by flame tanks.
It's genius like that that got you 3rd place :)
Personally I like the GLA for their no power requirement and expansion abilities. Must play some of you guys at some point.

USA: stealths circling the main enterance to your base is a nice tactic of mine. takes the sting out of a large attack. also levels them up for when you want to remove base defences :) | Pathfinders are a must too. If you're playing GLA they can just pick off most of the army without being seen. | Aurroa Bombers. Expensive and easily killed. Only for pissing about. | i tend to keep a couple of hummers with TOW upgrade on the defense to backup the patriot's when things get rough.
CHINA!: Bunkers + 5 rocket men. Cripple tanks in seconds. Easily taken out with aurroas or large MIG attacks though. Cooking the troops after the bunker is destroyed is a must. don't want another 5 level 3 rocketmen do we :D | Battlemaster + Gatlings making up most of the attack. imo Overlords are too slow and vunerable to attacks from planes and rocket men attacks. £2000 + upgrade killed in seconds. | MIGS. nuff said. usually 2 airfields for increased win
GLA: lots of stinger sites + tunnels. Keep the tunnels filled with quad cannons and tanks. pop them out when the going gets tough. | Maruders + quad cannons on the front line. upgrade the guns when kills are made. (essential) | Hijackers. fun :D 'my tank. thank you very muchly' | scud launcher. Lay the area with Anthrax. takes off some health of approching enemy vehicles. kills most of approching troops. probably all. Protect with quad cannons to avoid air attacks.

A handful of rocket troopers will kill off flame tanks before they get into range to scour the building.
Furthermore, we wuz ROBBED, especially considering we dumped on the second place team, and never played 2v2 versus the winners. You're *so* mine.

ok, you garrision your buildings and I'll build 2 toxic tractors...
When all your men are dead I'll award you the Hague medal for sacrificial tactics.

It does seem silly to argue the merits of an early game encounter between small, singular groups of units.
But, to continue in that vein, by the time you have toxin tractors at my base not only would I have my rocket troops, but probably a tank or two and depending on race, some anti-infantry defence.

/me completely ignores that statement and instead shouts a celebratory CHINA for the 2nd place team of ANDYF and RYVITA

Well i said sod it to the patriot and built second chinook (i think - little while ago) and then built crusaders as funds permitted. Provided excellent defense and a nice attack force.
My build order (nothing secret here, really):
Power
Another dozer
Barracks
Supply centre
Another chinook
Either another supply centre or a war factory
For my early rushes, it's Humvee and rangers or rocket troops (depending on which side I'm facing and whether I can get in for a resource rape) all the way.
My build order:
Power
Dozer
Barracks
Send spare dozer to different location
Supply centre
Rocket men

Really? I'm sure we must have played you at some point.
Oh yes that was it - we played you in the semi final where me and zak beat you even though you had a non-agression pact with the 2nd place team and we were fighting a war on 2 fronts ;)
TBH I think I managed to non-aggression everyone, and concentrated solely on filling my screen with Rocket Buggies until Ryv got attacked by sneaky bugs.

Ah yes it was most enjoyable to destroy afty's massing forces with GLA patented invulnerable artillery and steal all the big tanks he sent to kill me :) Bwahahahahaha
Then his noble ally bvark capitulated wildly ("Sir, they're capitulating!", "Well don't just stand there you idiot mow them down before they capitulate in our direction!") and became a turncoat to contain the massing forces of Andyf (I've never seen that many rocket buggys ever! Thankfully I'd nicked a dozer from Afty with Jarmen and built up a force of 15 commanches, it would have been like fish in a barrel :) )
That was a very enjoyable game TBH. Almost as funny as the men-only (with vast hax deployed) game me and Psym had later.
My build order, secret :p

You weren't the only ones fighting on two fronts....

cant give away all my tactics..
but one thing I will say, is if you lose a game. Save the replay, and find out what you did wrong.
I found it was a very good way to learn.

Where does this again come into it? There hasnt been a 1st time yet ;)
Oh yea, dont you just wish you had 2 mice when playing gens...
I think it would be great if they could make the game multi monitor etc as well.
I can they have like a rcon map on 1 screen, or 2 seperate units etc...
I think it would rock :)
