We did. :D
I'd just like to thank the staff who bought me free drinks. Especially CyberDude, he knows why. :D
Also big thanks to m@dm00 for being as helpful as always, I only hope frequent runs to McDonalds and vegi pizzas from Dominoes return the favours.
And BugAlugs, the flexing has left me spent, I'm bruised all over.

Just sort out the tannoy for the 2nd floor next time please.

I really seriously enjoyed that weekend. I got about 1 hour of gaming (excluding random DDR ownage), but it was worth it. Adminning the BF tourney was the highlight, that was great fun, and the co-operation made it all worthwhile

This is gonna sound like a rant (it is sort of)

i15 was p00

Cold floor (uncarpeted) meant i kept trainers on all day/night

sleeping areas unheated over crowded

some of the tech staff i found abusive, although not to me, to some young lad with pc problems.

network was p00, my rows had no network uplink until friday late afternoon

not allowed to run our own game servers yet a 20 player cs with adminmod on my 800mhz 256mb ram laptop over the 10mb 1/2duplex connection they supplied gave pings of 15ish. their cs servers including the tourney ones were dedicated servers with 100mb full duplex connections we got 200pings.

the tourney admins need to stik to roolz, we wouldv'e been beaten anyway, but we didn't utilise some bugs in maps as they were against the roolz. one team did, we complained, they admitted they did it, but the admin decided it was a vantage point. great, seeing thro a wall is a vantage point, does that mean i can use ogc next time?

but with respect to multiplay. I have been to several other i series and they r0x0rd so that should let peeps know that what i say above isn't just pissed off person.

I may be wrong i saying this but over my years of going to LAN fest most of which took place in South Africa, gamers seem to be losing their edge.

ooo the Floor was cold and i had to sit with my shoes on .. I'm sure that must of knocked 20 kills off your score. Back in my days (in computer years) gamers were the roughest of the rough, we would eat anything, sleep anywhere and play anywhere. It not just about getting there and playing, it is the entire community feel. Meeting up with ICQ mates, showing off your mp3 collection, or you new 24" monitor.

If you want luxury go to a hotel they have an Internet cafe down stairs. I'm sure you could use a computer there and I know they have a 24hour bar.

I remember playing in a small small small small hall once in the 40 degree + heat of a mid Summer South African day, imagine 400 + people crammed so tightly together you had to turn your keyboard horizontally and reconfigure your keys to play. The building had NO window, very few doors and NO AIRCON. It was to say, one of the best LAN fest I have ever been to (other than I series;) as it is something I talk about all the time. The PHAT power cable we had running into the place kept tripping every time someone turned on their machine and you had to bring your own hubs and cables, so if you were plugged into some g33ks hubs who wanted to go home to sleep on a bed and carpet with heating you had to move to a table which had open ports on the Hub.

You complain about not having connection until Friday afternoon. Least you got one. Try playing Star Craft on a COAX BUS Network with 8 PC’s between P133 and – P200mz. You could make tea by the time you have managed to get your first rush out.

It sounds like a lot of you have issues with luxury and obviously haven't gone through the pain of doing some lame ass job to buy your first processor and motherboard, or do you even know what COAX is. It is not the easiest thing in the world to have a LAN of 8 people let alone 1000 + give the guys a break, I think I – series is world class!! Awesome job guys!!! Awesome. It is another one I always talk about.

Bring on the hard-core gamers bring back the nirvana t-shirts, ripped denims and long hair. Long lives the old school;)

No, my issues arnt with luxury,

But if i pay for a service (ie the lan) i expect to get the service or a discount

Im immune to the cold. my two m8s complained about sub zero sleeping arrangements.

as a result of having sweaty trianers on all weekend due to freezeing cold floor, i now have athletes foot :( (getting it sorted)

and yeah the geeks, im a network manager for the nhs, i dont expect someone with 5years and plenty of cisco networking quals to be told by someone who's never a seen a coax hub and a 486 let alone a 286 tell me that im mistaken when i say sommiks rong.

I have to say that is the best I-Event I have attended to date.

Is it me or was there more room between the rows?
My only issue would be the extreme heat to cold issues from going from 2f to anywhere else. I know there isn't a lot we can do, but i17 especially is gonna be a nightmare upstairs!

Not sure I like the separate servers for the 2 floors either tbh.

I think the general concensus is that the Berkshire Stand was better, but tbh I would rather have the room than anything else.

One final point (I think) seating arrangements. Now I was there with 8 memebers of my clan who were gaming, but I actually don't think I spent much time talking to them. Its difficult to socialise with your friends when you are spread down a line. Would it not be better for Clans to sit back-to-back? Just a thought.

Keep the LANage coming guys. Good work!

yes, the heat on the second floor was awful, we did try ad sort it out, (i was the 1 running around opening all the doors on the second floor, it did help abit!
but the lan was good overall :)
c u at i16 :D

I also preferred the Bekshire stand. A better building, better toilets, better facilities, better all round. Size is an issue though.

Boffykins
18th March 2003, 20:35
Berkshire stand is great, but a few problems

1. Everyone is split up, moreso than in Grandstand

2. No room for social area, unless Member's Dining is sacrificed?

3. Must be a bitch to set up, network-wise

4. Space. 5th floor IS needed, but IIRC, Fire Regulations prevent that. Social area should not be sacrificed for the want of extra seats.

Agreed. It was great to be able to wonder off from the throng of pc's once in a while, also means you don't have to eat where you sit.

Just a question, seeing as i15 was actually so huge, would you be encouraging it to get bigger, thus cramming more in or was this even the limit you would set it to?

Hey Bikky, no offence dude i was not pointing fingers at anyone. Just speaking in general .. i guess i got a bit carried away with my nostalgia ;)

5 years at NHS huh? Maybe you should be helping out at the next i- series ;) .. I'll bring the coax hee hee

Well for me and my guys i15 went very well, really enjoyed it. even if you did force us into the pro cs tourney and THEN group us with ffc LOL :D

only problem is............... now you gotta put up with -=[KOA]=- at all your LAN's :D see ya at i16 :D

How about the Berkshire AND the grandstand ;)

Nite
19th March 2003, 10:39
That HAS to be a biatch to set up! then we deffo would be on seperate servers, and thats no good for me, being a CS bunny stuck in the TFC section.

Afty
19th March 2003, 10:49
Well, no. I imagine there would be an uplink between the two buildings.

Mingtea
19th March 2003, 11:05
Really the distance between the 2 buildings is minimal, and i for one would like to go back to the berkshire.

Cabe
19th March 2003, 12:27
the uplink between the first floor and the server farm is ample, im sure with some funky link aggregation we could make both buildings a viable option.

the only think is staffing it, ATM all the staff are in one place, and the punters wont want to be trekking across particulary in bad weather.

and I explect the staff dont want to get split up either.

its not Logistics for that point.

Nite
19th March 2003, 14:12
Personally I think we are better off in one buliding, but its always better to have more people gaming. Adds to the variety that you can play against.

Oh the dilemas!

Diplo
19th March 2003, 18:35
Other problem with 2 buildings is cost i would guess

Need to insure two buidlings need to hire both buildings ?

Also mentioned staff & security for both buildings is also another cost.

The event would have to be substantiouly bigger to pay for all these things..

But oh yes how nice would it be

/me wants Berkshire standaswell
