Dear All.

One of our clan is all paid up for I15, BUT, he is having problems with BF quitting all the time.

It used to work (he can't pinpoint a time or event that made it stop working though) but the problem is VERY easy to recreate.

The game will load fine, connect to a server but the minute he goes to spawn for the first time - BOOM, straight back to the desktop....

It may be a sound issue because he reports a whoosh of sound just before he spawns and subsequently quits. I saw a mention on another thread about a sound patch, something to do with a buffer or something ? Anyone tell me what this is ?

Also, anyone else had this problem at this point in the game before ?

PLEASE - don't reply with 100 messages saying have you tried updating your drivers to blah blah, he's tried it :D

Thanks in advance,

Ellis

thanks for the link but i have already seen this thread, it's where I noticed that there was a sound 'fix'.

Can't find any mention of what it actually is though !!??!!

somepeople report that disableing the joystick port in windows fixes the sound problems, its been said that bf constantly searches for a joystick connected on the midi/game port, causing distorted and jittery sound.

i suffer the sound problem ocaisionally, but cant test this fix, as my shuttle doesnt have a gameport to disable.

a friend of mine also had trouble with bf crashing, we couldnt work out what the problem was, it eventually stopped when he swapped his generic gheap0 network card for a 3com 3c905.
we still dont know if this action fixed it, or if it was coincidence.

The gameport disabling fix was never for sorting sound fix although dodgy sound was probably a by-product of the problem. It fixes issues where the game pauses for a split second at regular intervals.

Since I re-install the game i've not had this problem of the game quitting back to desktop.

There is info at www.battlefield1942.com detailing crash problems.

They suggest latest audio drivers and using hardware accerleration if it's avail on your soundcard.

the 1.31 patch may also help

Thanks for the info people, have tried everything from Windows 2000 -> Windows XP, different graphics & sound cards - it HAS to be a motherboard or processor fault.

New motherboard ordered...
