Hi there,
I recently purchased Unreal Tournament 2003 which i wanted to test out on my new PIV 2.0G, with an Nvidia Geforce IV. The game installed fine the only problem i have is i can't change the resolution to anything other than 800X600, when i try anything higher, even 1024 X 768, then game hangs and i can not even ctrl, alt delete.
Btw. i am running Windows Xp professional and have all the latest detonator drivers for the geforce.
Does anyone know what this problem is or have they come across it before ?

Could be several issues. First of all try patching to the latest version. I believe that gives you the option to change rendering device from Direct 3d to OpenGL. If it doesn't you can edit the UT2003.ini file in the ut2003/system directory. (The opengl line is in there but commented out, just uncomment it and comment out the direct3d line.) Failing that I just don't know what it could be.

Many thanx for this,
I have downloaded the latest patch for UT 2003 but didn't see that option, i must be honest though i never really looked for that option. I shall give it a bash tonight and let you know what happened.
Thanx a Mil.

Ok. There still isn't an in-game option to change the renderer. So this is what you need to do.
Open C:\UT2003\system\UT2003.ini (changing C:\UT2003\ to wherever you installed UT2003.)
Find the following line:
[Engine.Engine]
Underneath that you will see these 3 lines:
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
Change this to read:
;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
Hope that fixes it. :)

Of course I could be way out and it may not be a Direct 3D problem at all. But it's worth checking. :)

Well as luck would have it,
I went home with the newly equiped know-how on setting UT 2003 to use Open GL. I opened UT went straight to the settings to look for the GL Tab and ... as you have pointed out, it is not there. So i thought well why not give the resolution one last test. and WOLA!!! It works. I'd like to thank my mom, my dad, my brother and sister my dog and Most of all Cheeeeeeeeez without you it wouldn't have been possible. ;) thanx for your help.
One last question seen as you seem to be the UT guru at the moment. How do i get it to show my Fps, and wht fps should i be benchmarking against ( ie what is a good fps for ut 2003)
Many thanx
