Well, I haven't died 30 times in a match for nearly a month now, so it must be time to sign up for a stalingrad game.

I'm in.

Can I ask for a possibility of playing Stalingrad too? I know I'm a pilot, but after last night's match holding the south town on Gazala with Klicko (yes that's right, two pilots in tanks holding back enemies from their base! shocking!!), I quite enjoyed the ground fighting.

I've been getting withdrawal symptoms having not played for a couple of weeks. I've stopped imagining small blue or red names above their heads and I don't stop to crouch every time I catch sight of someone anymore. I think it's time I played another match - I'm in!

A newbie guide to Stalingrad part 1:

If you spawn at the middle flag, RUN LIKE HELL.

SquireMuldoon
26th February 2003, 20:57
Clearly the tactic is to NOT spawn in the middle?

Oh yes, and Ill play :)

I am determined to play this match but i am off college today since i have pulled muscle in neck and shoulder and cant move my fricking head without immense pain. As of this i shall have to ask rents if i can play later (as i have to move round klickos for the game). I will give u plenty of heads up if everything goes tits up. Sorry again for being a professional fop

Wildthing: I do the same thing on a regular basis boarding.

<disclaimer: works for me>
If you haven't seen a doctor who's already told you to do it, take some ibuprofen and keep a fairly hot hot water bottle on the shoulder and neck area affected - don't try and turn your head to 'work out the muscles' until it's getting better or you'll make it worse.</disclaimer>

Cheers bvark. Ive been rubbing ibuprofen into it all day i dont think its done too much yet. Also got so 'Perskindol' fluid from Austria, dont know whether you know the stuff but its keeping my shoulder nice and warm :p:

Thanks to Gifted for being on the runway at ready 5 throughout the match. Thanks to bootz for being available, sorry we couldn't get you in.

AAR:

Midway:
Allies:
An error-free start, but their airforce exerted their dominance in short order, and we were left scrabbling to hold land and sea spawns as our carrier was sunk. Enemy flak took our recon plane out, and we struggled for the whole round getting good quality recon on their ships. Their plane work continued to be excellent throughout, and our AA was left struggling to cope in most instances.
Some relatively solid naval work (including a fairly easy sinking of their carrier) and some very solid defense on the island gave us a 94-76 win at timeout.

Axis:
Again, we had little air superiority, but their carrier stayed down for most of the match. Overfocussing on island spawns cost them their entire unmanned navy towards the end, and the much vaunted 4 flag attrition took place for a lot of the second half of the round. We're sure this was due to the needless sacrifice of SquireMuldoon by bvark's battleship, so we shall repeat this even map.
Recon got better, but the strength of their land attack meant the navy had trouble getting accurate recon over the radio.
HalOS then did some sterling work in the sub, finding, tracking and sinking the enemy fleet as they made a last-ditch attempt to counterattack. Good ASW work by all destroyer captains.
Good land holding, with a large number of kills by the land people compared to the enemies attacking them.

Stalingrad:
Allies:
A good 'hollow hold' on this map (north and south), with some high quality spaffing into the middle hurt the enemy, but then we lost the south and were totally unable to counterattack sucessfully. Good tanking and better anti-tanking work meant we never had the ability to kill people in the middle, and bad driving on bvark's part didn't help either.
A 28-0 loss (followed by a server crash) lead to us having a 107 point lead coming into the last round.

Axis:
We took the middle for a short two-flag bleed, but the difficulty (and inexperience) of the drivers bringing the tanks across coupled with some truly excellent tank and anti-tank work meant that they could hold two of the points and swat off our counterattacks (which weren't coordinated at all well - we could learn a lot from their AT), inflicting heavy losses.
Some VERY jittery and panicked defending caused multiple TKs, with AcidUK and Klicko being named and shamed (principally for killing me).
Luckily for us we took 69 of their lives in combat, and a few more from the hold, plus the inevitable (and fairly numerous) TKing on their side lead to a VERY close 9 point win.

Summary:
One of our closest and best games yet, against some serious opposition (who were admittedly inexperienced at naval operations). The next game may not be nearly so close!
Thanks to Basserne for being generally good sports!

Medals:

Silver Star for Lucifa for an outstanding first performance in the MPUK navy, with a large number of enemy kills, and some good support gunning.
Bronze Star for HalOS for excellent work under the seas, providing recon, sinking the enemy battleship as it marauded our base, and sinking numerous destroyers - never an easy feat.
Army Commendation Medal for 10acious for generally good defending of the island, which was not sufficiently reflected in his score.
Presidential Unit Commendation (naval) for bvark, AcidUK, HalOS and Lucifa for terrorising the high seas to a significant degree.

Administrivia:
Those who haven't already, please upgrade your teamspeak. Thanks to psym for the screenshots, seems we're getting them again well now.

I am going home proud after aftys call of "enemy going up the stairs"

I took aim from outside as I saw him flash past the 1st window and took the shot just as he flicked past the 2nd window with shocking timing and accuracy - 1 shot head shot and he fell over

I was much happy with that shot :[b][/b)

GG all

Good AAR, although I must add one point. Our aircraft carrier as Allies stayed alive, and this showed as our air force knocked theirs out the sky time and again, allowing the ground force to do their job properly.

I would suggest a change in tactic to the way we recon Midway at the start. I won't say it here though.
