I'm looking at getting a new hard drive, hoping to get a nice big ass one as moving stuff about on CDs is just getting agro now.
At the moment i've got 2 40gb Baracuda IV's. I had em in raid till they went all deaded and so now they are seperate, but I just need more space. I'm thinking something from 140 to 200 gb would be nice.
Any suggestions?

get a RAID card so u can use those 2, and then another 4 on the RAID card.
get a western digital 80gb for windows and operating system/programs ,for speed.
Then stick the 2 40s onto the RAID card seperate for 80gb space, and get another 2 hard drives for even more spoace, whatever it turns out gives you the best value for money.

My suggestion to you is to go for the fastest speed disk (rpm) you can with the most cache (Mb) and the fastest ribbon speed (UDMA rating).
You should never skimp on disks, everything in a pc is replacable BUT the data. Buy from a good manufacturer.
I would go and search ebuyer or simply and make some suggestions but I am kinda busy atm.

if your looking for storage, and your not so bothered about the rpm of the drive, I would sugest the maxtor 250gb drives.
You can get them in both 5400rpm, and 7200rpm.
Price goes up about £40 for the 7200.
The drive works out at just over £1 per gig.
Not bad imho, and on my shoping list for after payday.

get a fujitsu drive ive had a 6.4Gb in my machine for almost 6 years now and it is still running great (best not have jinxed it), during that time I have had ibm, seagate, western digital and maxtor drives fail on me. It could just possibly be the more plates the squeeze into these drives the less stability the drive has thats why the fujitsu lasted so long

Fujitsu drives have higher failure rates than IBM AFAIK. At least the more recent ones do.

Cheez as I was saying I think its just modern drives when they are trying to shove more platers to increase Gbs inthe drives it seems to affect stability,
