Some of you who are using Windows XP Professional will no doubt have heard of the crash bug by now in Generals.
Install goes fine, but then when loading the game, it crashes just after the CD check finishes.
There is a way around this which has worked for many people after I suggested it on the official forums.
Right-click the shortcut and go to Properties, then select the 'Compatibility' tab and tick the box to allow compatibility. Now change the OS choice to Windows 2000. Click OK, and then OK again.
Voila! The game will now work when loaded. It seems Westwood in their infinite wisdom didn't check the game properly on some versions of Windows XP with Direct X 9 in them.
This however, is a good workaround until they release a patch for it.
