Reet, exhausted all alternatives so i may aswell make a post here, basically sometimes randomly when playing bf1942 (legal copy 1.3patch), the screen locks up, however the PC is still processing, if i press alt tab, the main screen (TFT) gets no signal message and turns itself off, however the PC is still powered on and processing, as in the second monitor (Tele via SVHS cable) shows the desktop intact. Any ideas? :S
System info
2.53ghz underclocked to 1.9
512ddr
matsonic mobo
windows XP (patched and legal).
ASUS GeForce 4 TI4400
SB live! soundcard
ive tried updating the graphics drivers and the soundcard drivers, ive uninstalled and reinstalled both monitors. updated to directx9. still nno joy, there is no pattern to the crashes.
Anyone got any clue what could be causing it?

It's defo cause of your [MPUK] tag - it's rebelling against you for not being a clan member :)
Afty had some random crashed and I think his vdo card drivers fixed it. I have a similar spec system and I use 41.09 detonators.
Try installing new vdo drivers, updating your OS with the latest service packs, reinstalling directx (8, not 9)
You could also try lowering your sound acceleration to standard or basic in directx by running DXDIAG from start -> run and using the slider under the sound page

im using 41.09, all XP sps are installed, ive tried turning all hardware sound acceleration off, and the crashes occured before i updated to DX9
ill try downgrading the accelleration.
i hope it solves the problem, so i can get that bloodeh tag back =p.

Riki, Try disabling the Gameport on the sound card in device manager. I have the same soundcard as you and while playing, the game would pause or lockup for a split second every few seconds. Killing and I, after many hours managed to work out what the problem was.
It seems that (in my case anyway) the game is polling for the joystick and if there isn't one plugged in, it causes the game to stutter.
Like i said this might not be the problem you have but give it a go.

I was arsing around last night and managed to reliably make bf crash 2 seconds after starting it by having the sound acceleration to basic... weird
Riki, try enable/disable your sound acceleration within the game too - that could make a diff

what can i say?
it makes u sound even more well of doesnt it, if your system is UNDERclocked.
but alas no, the bad firm which supplied the PC, made it with the wrong mobo, basically the mobo cant support the high end northwood p4s. hence underclocking.
